AWC Staff Services are looking for a Design Manager to join their client on a Permanent Basis as part of their Distribution and connections team. As one of the largest Independent Connection Providers (ICP’s) in the UK, they support distribution network operations across infrastructure. Teams install and maintain distribution networks and ensure reliable connections for customers, carrying out electrical planned work, customer connections, and network reinforcement.

Proud to be a key delivery partner in the UKPN Alliance, working across the East of England to refurbish and build substations from 11kV to 132kV. From switch houses to transformer enclosures, they handle everything - design, project management, cabling, construction, commissioning, and more!

A full drivers licence and a willingness to travel is a must, as this role covers multiple sites.

What You’ll Be Doing

  • Lead design delivery using internal and external teams
  • Set and manage safety, commercial, and operational targets
  • Own the commercial performance of design projects
  • Track progress against internal and client goals
  • Build and maintain strong relationships with UKPN
  • Support and grow your design team to meet project needs
  • Plan workloads to match customer requirements
  • Prepare design programmes and cost forecasts

What You’ll Bring

  • Experience leading teams in engineering, utilities, or DNO environments
  • Strong people management and motivational skills
  • Chartered Engineer status (or equivalent experience)
  • Familiarity with ISO9001, ISO14001, and OHSAS 18001 standards
  • Solid understanding of CDM Regulations and the Designer’s role
  • Knowledge of protection/control schemes for 11kV–132kV networks
  • Confident in design management and commercial decision-making
  • Bonus if you’ve worked in an alliance or joint venture setup
