Main Purpose of Job & Key Responsibilities

  • Cross functional technical support to allow the business to define, develop and deliver products that meet the needs of its customer base in a timely and cost-efficient manner to the correct performance and quality standards.
  • Ensure design intent is understood through timely communication and interaction with the operations, service, sales and purchasing teams plus customers and supply base as required.
  • Mechanical design – lead the generation of mechanical designs using suitable analysis tools and creation of mechanical drawings, models and schematics using suitable CAD packages.
  • Creation and maintenance of BOM’s and Routes which will need a good working knowledge of SAP Beas plus the existing product’s architecture.
  • System integration – ensuring products are designed for manufacture (DFM) and meet the expected performance targets plus outputs.
  • Identify and implement opportunities for improvement to enhance our future products, leading and coordinating change requests and engineering to order (ETO) sales requests.
  • Coordinate and lead quality investigations plus new product testing and validation programs as deemed necessary.
  • Keep abreast of new technology development and be mindful of how this may and can be incorporated into future products.
  • Ongoing system and process improvements to enhance the way we work and drive department/business efficiency.
  • Provide technical support to fabrication and assembly teams during manufacturing and resolve design queries.
  • Review customer specifications and sales documentation to ensure accurate engineering solutions are delivered.

Qualifications

  • Suitable mechanical qualifications (NVQ, HNC, HND, Degree) and experience.
  • Ideally, a proficient/time served user of Inventor or SolidWorks plus Microsoft 365.
  • Familiarity with ERP (SAP or similar) and PDM/PLM systems.

Proven Skills

  • A strong personality with energy, drive, adaptability, problem solving and decision-making capability.
  • Ideally, having worked with similar electrical products and can bring an aligned and best practice experience to allow the continued growth of the engineering team/business.
  • Good communication skills, both verbal and written, comfortable presenting to and engaging with key working parties both internally and externally.

  • Organised, self-disciplined, numerate, with excellent attention to detail and the ability to deliver in a timely manner as required.
  • Both people and process orientated to help them drive and achieve common goals through relationship building and collaboration.
