We are excited to announce a new opportunity for the role of Lean Technician. This position is designed to recognise and develop employees who actively demonstrate the principles of Lean Manufacturing in their day to day work and who are passionate about improving our processes and helping others grow. As a Lean Technician, you will serve as a hands-on leader, working directly on the shop floor to identify and eliminate waste, coach peers, and support continuous improvement initiatives.

Main Purpose of the Job

This role is part of our broader effort to develop Lean Subject Matter Experts (SMEs) within the company.

Key Responsibilities

  • Lean Implementation and Support: Participate in Kaizen events, process improvement initiatives, and 5S projects. Help implement visual controls, standard work, and work area organisation (5S). Collaborate with CI leaders and team leads to support day to day Lean activities on the floor. Lead small projects, Quick Kaizens to address process inefficiencies or recurring issues.
  • Coaching and Peer Development: Informally train and mentor co-workers on basic Lean tools and thinking. Encourage problem-solving by assisting peers with root cause analysis and solution implementation. Help teams sustain improvements through coaching, follow-ups and visual management.
  • Problem Solving and Data Collection: Participate in root cause analysis and PDCA cycles. Assist with collecting data (e.g., downtime, cycle times, takt time) to identify improvement opportunities through the use of the Managing for Daily Improvement Boards. Support the documentation and tracking of improvement activities and their results.
  • Compliance and Standard Work: Conduct informal 5S audits and ensure adherence to standardised work practices. Help teams develop or update standard work documents. Promote safety, quality, and productivity through Lean best practices.

Qualifications

  • Proven track record of demonstrating Lean behaviours and problem-solving on the shop floor.
  • Ability to explain and apply basic Lean tools such as: 5S (Sort, Set in Order, Shine, Standardise, Sustain), Standard Work, Visual management, Root Cause Analysis (5 Whys, Fishbone), PDCA or A3 Thinking.
  • Positive attitude, curiosity, and a willingness to help others.
  • Strong communication skills with peers, supervisors and CI leaders.
  • Willingness to lead by example and act as a change agent.

Preferred (not required)

  • Previous participation in a Kaizen or improvement event.
  • Completion of any internal Lean training sessions or Lean 101 certification.
  • Interest in developing into future roles within Continuous improvement or Operations Leadership.
