The Role
We are looking for an experienced Plant Fitter to join the workshop team at the Farnborough depot. You will be responsible for the inspection, servicing, maintenance and repair of a wide and varied fleet of specialist construction plant and equipment ranging from robotic demolition machines and diamond drilling rigs to floor saws, skid-steer loaders, generators, power packs and electric/battery eco plant. This is a Monday to Friday role with no weekend working, offering a stable and well-structured working environment for a skilled engineer who takes pride in their work and wants to be part of a reputable, growing business.
Key Responsibilities
- Carry out pre-hire inspection, servicing and maintenance of all plant and equipment prior to dispatch
- Diagnose and repair mechanical, hydraulic and electrical faults across a varied fleet
- Service and maintain specialist plant including robotic demolition machines, diamond drilling rigs, floor saws, floor preparation equipment, skid-steer loaders, generators and eco/electric plant
- Carry out post-hire inspections on return of equipment, assessing condition and identifying repair requirements
- Ensure all plant and equipment leaves the depot in clean, safe and fully operational condition
- Maintain accurate service records and workshop logs
- Support the depot team with loading, unloading and preparation of equipment for delivery and collection
- Identify parts requirements and liaise with suppliers for procurement
- Assist with PAT testing and safety checks on electrical equipment where required
- Adhere to all health and safety procedures and ensure workshop standards are maintained at all times
- Support and contribute to the continued development of the company's eco plant fleet
Essential Requirements
- Proven experience as a Plant Fitter, Plant Mechanic or Land-based Engineer in a similar hire, construction or plant environment
- NVQ Level 2 or 3 in Plant Maintenance, Mobile Plant Engineering or equivalent proven trade experience
- Strong mechanical aptitude with working knowledge of hydraulic systems
- Experience working on a varied range of plant and specialist equipment
- Ability to diagnose and fault-find independently with minimal supervision
- Meticulous attention to detail; equipment must always leave in first-class condition
- Strong work ethic, reliability and punctuality; 07:00 start is non-negotiable
- Good communication skills and a team-first attitude
- Full UK driving licence
- Right to work in the UK
Desirable
- City Guilds qualification in Plant Maintenance or Engineering
- CPCS or NPORS card (any category)
- Experience servicing or repairing robotic demolition equipment (e.g. Brokk, Husqvarna)
- Experience with electric or battery-powered plant and eco equipment
- Diamond drilling, sawing or floor preparation equipment knowledge
- IPAF licence
- Manufacturer training certification (Husqvarna, Bobcat, Brokk or similar)
- Experience in a tool or plant hire depot environment
