A member of the Asset Integrity Division supporting a diverse range of engineering technical services on time and to budget. Key areas of expertise are as follows:
- Structural vibration assessment and problem solving
- Asset integrity monitoring including system design and configuration
- Process pipework vibration assessment / problem solving (in accordance with Energy Institute guidelines)
- Design and implementation of Pipework Vibration Solutions
Working within a team of typically 6-8 engineers in Asset Integrity Division. Projects frequently involve a considerable amount of travelling and periods of time spent away from home, occasionally including international travel working on customer sites both onshore and offshore, in particular COMAH registered sites. Onshore work will typically be performed Monday to Friday whereas the offshore work will involve trips away from home for typically 1 - 2 weeks including weekend. On site projects may require working as a small team or individually depending on requirements.
Principal Accountabilities:
- Visit clients sites to perform High Level Consultancy Support and technical services to clients, including:
- Structural vibration assessment and problem solving
- Process piping vibration assessment and problem solving (in accordance with Energy Institute guidelines)
- Design and implementation of AVT Pipework Vibration Solutions
- Asset integrity monitoring systems
- Liaising with customers to determine project requirements.
- Preparation of technical / commercial proposals for work
- Job preparation, including: establish key deliverables, prepare job documentation including Method statement, Risk Assessment and Job Specification.
- Plan work identifying support where required, procurement of equipment, setting up equipment and arranging travel/accommodation for site work.
- Further assessment work involving the use of CAD, FEA or other specialist softwares to further investigate and come up with practical solutions.
- Specification, design and configuration and implementation of structural monitoring systems.
- Project management and support colleague projects as required.
- Data Analysis, Technical Report Writing and Recommendations
- Ensure HSE and Quality Standards Compliance
Qualifications / Education:
- Essential: Degree in a relevant engineering subject with broad mechanical engineering experience with supplementary practical skills.
- Able to pass offshore medical and offshore survival course.
- A full driving license is required.
- Desirable: Knowledge of electrical engineering. Ideally BSSM Level 1 or 2 certified. Offshore medical & survival trained.
Skills & Knowledge:
- Essential: Excellent understanding of vibration and dynamic behaviour of structures and machines.
- Excellent understanding of structural vibration, measurement, assessment and problem solving.
- Good understanding of metal fatigue failure mechanisms.
- Experienced in configuration, installation and use of instrumentation and data logging systems for the measurement of strain, vibration, displacement, pressure, temperature etc.
- Knowledge of Modal Testing and Operating Deflection Shape (ODS) Assessments techniques.
- Experienced in data analysis and signal processing and data interpretation.
- Proficient in 3D CAD (SolidWorks) in particularly structural engineering design.
- Proficient in FEA (ANSYS) performing Static, Modal and Harmonic studies.
- Technical reporting skills.
- Excellent written and organisational abilities.
- Practical knowledge of designing structural components and assemblies.
- Desirable: Performed Operating Deflection Shape (ODS) Assessments. Performed Modal Testing. Performed process piping vibration assessment and problem solving (in accordance with Energy Institute guidelines). Competent in the installation and configuration of strain gauges. Used HBM Glyphworks, MEScope softwares. Motion Amplification techniques. Knowledge of online monitoring systems. Experience of programming of data logging and HMI-PLC systems. Basic awareness of Machinery vibration monitoring (CBM).
Experience:
- Essential: 3-5 years plus providing commercial engineering consulting services to industry.
- Capable of writing technical proposal and quotations.
- Experience of hands-on site work.
- Broad mechanical engineering experience.
- Practical mechanical engineering experience and good understanding of mechanical engineering.
- Experience in the application and use of modern instrumentation and measurement techniques applied to structural or machinery monitoring applications. Structural design, development and testing.
- Desirable: Nuclear Industry experience. Chemical Industry Experience. Oil & Gas industry experience. Offshore work experience.
