The British Red Cross is looking for a Building Maintenance Officer to join our head offices in London. You will take responsibility for scheduling and managing the building's maintenance to ensure a functional, compliant and safe environment for all building users. You'll also supervise planned preventive maintenance (PPM) and reactive works, ensuring value for money and quality.
A day in the life of our Building Maintenance Officer:
- Manage the PPM planner by scheduling and overseeing service visits.
- Ensure visits happen and reports are received.
- Oversee remedial PPM works, including reviewing reports, surveying, tendering, and supervising contractors.
- Act as the first response to maintenance issues by assessing, isolating, and making areas safe.
- Carry out general maintenance tasks such as plumbing, decorating, and fixing fixtures and fittings.
- Manage fire and water risk assessments and ensure actions are reviewed.
- Carry out regular water management and fire safety checks, keep hard services records and certifications up to date, and complete routine building inspections while reporting health and safety risks and hazards.
Qualifications and experience:
- Time and deadline management skills – ability to respond to and prioritise a range of competing demands.
- Problem solving skills – able to assess situations and quickly identify solutions with sound judgment.
- Excellent communications and interpersonal skills, including judgement, tact and diplomacy.
- Strong initiative with the ability to work autonomously and take personal responsibility for completing tasks.
- Proven practical experience of delivering minor repairs (such as plumbing, decorating and repairing fixtures and fittings).
- Experience of working in Facilities Management, specifically Hard Services.
- IT literacy with experience using Microsoft 365 applications including Outlook, Excel, Word and Teams.
