About our apprenticeships

We’re here to help you grow. As an apprentice, you’ll learn from experienced colleagues, gain a nationally recognised qualification, and take part in training designed just for your role. You’ll join a supportive apprentice community, have the chance to become a STEM ambassador, and use your digital skills to help us inspire other young people through social media. We want you to enjoy what you do, learn quickly, aim high, and get hands-on experience—so keep reading and apply today!

About the apprenticeship role…

You’ll learn directly from experienced Quantity Surveyors, gaining hands-on experience and building your knowledge across all aspects of the role. You’ll apply what you learn to live projects, supporting the delivery of wastewater and water network infrastructure and treatment facilities. You will work with the Commercial team supporting them with commercial and contractual responsibilities, assisting operational teams, and helping ensure we deliver value for our clients while staying true to our company values.

Alongside your work, you’ll study towards a Level 6 Degree Apprenticeship in Chartered Quantity Surveying with Leeds Trinity University, earning a BSc (Hons) in Professional Practice. This is a 5-year programme including end point assessment (EPA). As an apprentice, you will work 40 hours per week and your time will be split between site visits, working from your office location, working from home, and attending university in block placements throughout the year. This role will be based in Durham.

This role is a September 2026 start.

What your day could look like…

  • Learning to support the Commercial Team by following Avove’s systems, processes, and procedures across our contracts.
  • Building your understanding of financial monitoring and reporting for the projects you’re involved in.
  • Learning how to help set up construction contracts that meet the needs of our clients and procurement processes.
  • Gaining experience in preparing accurate financial statements for your assigned contracts.
  • Understanding how to manage contract administration, including handling changes (known as variations) to the work.
  • Supporting the commercial close-out of contracts, including keeping records that help with claims, time extensions, and evaluating changes.
  • Learning how to manage subcontractors, including reviewing payment applications and final accounts.

We give all our apprentices the equivalent of one day a week to dedicate to your studies and time to attend training with your apprenticeship provider.

About you…

You will need the following to be eligible for this apprenticeship:

  • Minimum of 5 GCSEs including Maths and English at a grade 4 or above.
  • Level 3 qualifications such as A Levels, a T Level qualification or a BTEC qualification.
  • A driving license is always a bonus. If you are currently learning to drive, we may be able to support financially towards this, dependent on meeting our criteria.

This opportunity would be a great fit if you’re confident using digital tools like Microsoft Office and enjoy working with others. We’re looking for someone who communicates clearly, stays organised, and pays attention to detail. You’ll need to be comfortable working in a team and able to take initiative when working independently. If you’re motivated, eager to learn, and interested in developing leadership skills, we’d love to hear from you!

What’s in it for you…

We offer a competitive salary and a wide range of flexible benefits to support your wellbeing and lifestyle:

  • 24 days holiday plus bank holidays
  • Company pension scheme
  • Life assurance
  • Private GP helpline & health cash plan
