About the role
Due to continued growth, Avove is seeking a Senior Structural Engineer to join our expanding design team. In this role, you will support and deliver high‑quality structural designs across a range of projects, providing technical expertise and guidance on all structural matters. You will play a key role in ensuring designs are safe, compliant and fit for purpose, contributing to successful project delivery while supporting and mentoring members of the wider design team.
Location: Due to the nature of the role, we welcome applications from candidates within a reasonable commuting distance of any of our office locations located within the Midlands, North West and North East. Travel to Brighouse for essential meetings will be required.
Key Responsibilities
- Lead structural design on multi‑disciplinary water industry projects.
- Provide expert guidance on all structural matters and help develop Avove’s structural capability.
- Deliver compliant, high‑quality structural designs in line with current BS/EN standards.
- Promote best practice and continuous improvement in structural design.
- Plan and manage structural investigations to support project delivery.
- Liaise with clients, stakeholders and external sub‑consultants on technical matters.
- Support tenders and business development through technical input and fee estimates.
- Monitor structural design delivery, resources and budgets, reporting to line management.
Skills & Experience Required
- Degree in Civil or Structural Engineering, or equivalent with strong structural design experience.
- Chartered Engineer (CEng, IStructE) or working towards chartership with relevant experience.
- Technical authority in structural design, providing guidance, challenge and assurance.
- Broad experience across reinforced concrete, steelwork, and water and wastewater infrastructure (buried and above‑ground).
- Ability to define and scope structural deliverables and integrate them into costed programmes of work.
- Strong knowledge of regulatory compliance, statutory processes and technical standards.
- Confident leading discussions with regulators and key stakeholders, acting as the focal point for structural approvals and consents.
- Sound understanding of health, safety legislation, including CDM Regulations.
- Strong leadership, coordination and problem‑solving skills with the ability to translate technical requirements into practical solutions.
