About the role:
Due to continued growth, we are seeking a Mechanical Technical Manager to join our expanding Design team. Within this role, you will act as the Mechanical Discipline Technical Authority, ensuring the quality, consistency, and integrity of mechanical designs across complex projects and frameworks. You will provide independent technical governance, ensuring all outputs meet regulatory standards, client requirements, and internal processes. As the escalation point for complex or high-risk engineering decisions, you will drive best practice and champion the consistent application of engineering standards across all deliverables.
Salary: £64,000 - £78,000 (Depending on experience)

Location: Due to the nature of the role, we welcome applications from candidates within a reasonable commuting distance of any of our office locations, located within the Midlands, North West, North East, and Glasgow.
Responsibilities:
- Provide technical leadership for mechanical design across projects and frameworks
- Act as Technical Authority for complex or high-risk engineering decisions
- Review and approve designs, calculations, specifications, and risk assessments
- Ensure compliance with standards, regulations, and internal governance
- Lead design reviews and deliver independent technical assurance
- Support project teams to deliver coordinated, buildable, and compliant solutions
- Contribute to bids, client engagement, and commercial decision-making
- Mentor and develop engineers, supporting capability and career progression
- Drive best practice in safety, sustainability, and whole-life performance
- Promote innovation, digital engineering, and continuous improvement
Skills/experience Required:
- Degree in Mechanical Engineering (IMechE accredited or equivalent)
- Chartered Engineer (CEng) with IMechE or a recognised professional body or experience to achieve accreditation.
- Significant experience in mechanical design within the water and utilities sector
- Strong knowledge of mechanical systems, including pumping, pipework, and treatment processes
- Proven track record of leading multidisciplinary teams on complex infrastructure projects
- In-depth understanding of UK standards, CDM 2015, and relevant design codes
- Excellent communication skills, with the ability to produce clear and authoritative technical documentation
- Full UK driving licence
