Avondale Foods is a leading food processing company of Fresh and Chilled products supplying leading retail businesses such as Marks & Spencer, Morrisons and Waitrose in the UK. The Assistant Accountant will support the finance team with the day-to-day financial administration and accounting activities of the organisation. The role will assist with maintaining accurate financial records, processing transactions, preparing reconciliations and supporting month-end and year-end accounting processes in relation to Purchase Ledger, Budgeting, Management Accounts and Statutory Financial Statements in accordance with the requirements of the organisation.

Key Responsibilities

  • Assist in maintaining and developing accurate systems information, records and reporting, with adequate financial controls.
  • Support with implementation of financial controls and reporting, including but not limited to, monthly management accounts (P&L, Balance Sheet and Cashflow), balance sheet reconciliations, process and systems improvements, payroll, VAT submissions etc.
  • Support with financial reports to include proactive and robust financial analysis to support decision making and business performance.
  • Assist in the preparation of key performance indicators and commentaries on variances.
  • Present financial reports to the Head of Finance & IT.
  • Assist with preparing draft statutory accounts in line with UK Government requirements.
  • Ensure Food Safety compliance with company policies and regulatory requirements to remain audit-ready at all times.

Essential Criteria

  • At least 3 years experience working within a Finance function.
  • Good knowledge and understanding of financial management and best practice.

Desirable Criteria

  • Experience working within the Food Manufacturing industry, preferably via the preparation of accounts.
  • Experience of using Microsoft Navision.
  • Experience of product costing.

Skills: Record Keeping, Accounts administration, Month end, Year end.
