Could you make a difference and help shape the lives of the young people in your area? Do you have what it takes to motivate and support our Volunteer Police Cadets to fulfil their potential? We need adult volunteer leaders to support our cadet programme. Our cadet units provide an environment for young people (aged 13 β 17) where they can learn about roles within policing, support their community and develop valuable life skills such as communication and problem solving in a fun and safe environment.
You donβt need knowledge of policing. We will provide training and resources and our units are supported by their local policing teams. The Volunteer Police Cadets meet on Thursday evenings during term time 19:00 to 21:00 hours at Weston College, Knightstone Road, Weston super Mare, BS23 2AL.
Your Role Would Be To:
- Deliver fun weekly interactive sessions.
- Support cadets when they attend community events, visits to specialist police teams and when they support policing activities.
- Be a positive adult role model for young people.
- Create a safe and inclusive environment where all cadets are welcomed and able to share any concerns.
- Support the Unit Leader with planning and preparation for weekly sessions (and other activities which sometimes take place at weekends).
You Will Receive:

Applicants must be available for their assessment at Weston College, Knightstone Road; the date is to be confirmed.
Eligibility:
- You must be 18 years of age to apply.
- You are unable to apply if you have been a Police Cadet within the last 6 months.
- All applicants will be subject to the Force Vetting Policy and will be required to undertake and maintain the appropriate level of safeguarding training for the role.
- The role requires you to undertake an enhanced Disclosure and Barring Check (DBS) every three years.

Police Barred and Advisory lists:
Individuals placed on the Police Barred and Advisory lists will not be considered for a volunteering role by the police for a minimum of 5 years from the date of listing in the case of gross misconduct, or 3 years from the date of listing in the case of poor performance.

Avon and Somerset Police are committed to safeguarding and operate safer recruitment processes. All employees and volunteers will be subject to background checks including vetting and references. This role involves responsibility for young people that will require completion of an enhanced DBS and checking of the list of those barred from working with children.
