As the Vetting Assessor Manager, you will lead a team of Vetting Researchers and manage vetting withdrawal investigations, ensuring a compliant and risk based vetting service. Through the assessment of vetting concerns and evaluation of evidence, you will support fair decision making, manage organisational risk and help maintain public confidence in policing.
The successful candidate will conduct interviews in line with criminal investigation standards, and support fair and proportionate decision making, and will hold PIP1 accreditation, or demonstrate equivalent investigative experience. You will thrive in a challenging environment where decisions are subject to public, media and political scrutiny.
Your main responsibilities will include:
- Managing communications with officers, staff, staff associations, trade union representatives and legal representatives in relation to vetting withdrawal assessments.
- Undertaking the role of Vetting Assessor, to manage vetting withdrawal investigations, disclosure of material, interviews to ensure robust, evidence-based and defensible decisions in accordance with the Vetting regulations and force procedures.
- Preparing and conducting exploratory vetting, ethical and withdrawal interviews, ensuring information is obtained, verified and accurately recorded.
- Preparing assessor reports, disclosure material, redactions and legal documentation, ensuring compliance with legislative and national vetting requirements.
- Managing and supervising a team of Vetting Researchers, overseeing workloads, performance and the delivery of Non-Police Personnel Vetting (NPPV) assessments.
Experience and Qualifications required:
- Must have proven organisational, decision-making experience, capacity to work at both tactical levels and the ability to plan and prioritise workload and vetting requirements in a methodical manner to meet strict deadlines
- Ability to understand and apply the College of Policing Vetting Authorised Professional Practice (APP), national vetting standards and associated guidance. Knowledge of relevant legislation, including data protection, human rights, equality and employment legislation, and their application within vetting processes.
- Must hold PIP1 accreditation or demonstrate equivalent investigative experience. Experience in conducting investigations, assessments, or casework requiring analytical judgement and evidential reasoning.
- Must have the ability to undertake interviews to the standard required in a criminal investigation.
- The post holder must be aware that their decision making and withdrawal investigations will be subject to critical review and legal challenge.
- Experienced in the identification and management of risk and potential risk.
- Ability to handle sensitive and potentially contentious cases with professionalism and impartiality. Demonstrated understanding of confidentiality, information management, and data protection.
- Able to develop and motivate a team and create strong engagement of individuals with their personal and team objectives and with Force values, behaviours and strategic priorities.
- The postholder should ideally hold a full current driving licence or be able to travel around the force/region using alternative transport.

Additional Information:
This is a blended role therefore this role is largely home based with attendance at our Headquarters site approximately one day per week and travel to other sites across the Force area as required. The role is worked Monday to Friday, with working arrangements to be discussed with the successful candidate. In person attendance will be required to meet business needs.
