Due to the impending retirement of our current postholder, we are seeking to appoint a qualified Senior Occupational Health Nurse Advisor to join our team. This role presents an excellent opportunity to contribute to the delivery and development of high-quality occupational health services, supporting the health and wellbeing of our people across the organisation.
As a Senior Occupational Health Nurse Advisor, you will play a pivotal role in assisting the Occupational Health Unit Lead and the Force Medical Advisor in providing an occupational health service, promoting and maintaining the health and safety of our workforce. You will collaborate with employees, management, and stakeholders to implement effective occupational health programs, ensuring compliance with regulatory standards and fostering a culture of well-being within the organisation.
This full-time opportunity provides a hybrid working arrangement, requiring a minimum of 60% on-site attendance each week. Our sites are based across police premises throughout the force area (including locations in Portishead, Yeovil, Bridgwater, Keynsham, Bristol & South Gloucestershire), and the role will require regular travel between various locations, so a willingness and ability to travel is essential.
Your main responsibilities will include:
- Managing and supporting a team of Occupational Health Nurse Advisors and an Occupational Health Nurse.
- Managing your own complex caseload.
- Co-ordinating and conducting health surveillance and Hep B clinics across the force area including pre-employment screenings and periodic health check-ups.
- Being a productive member of the multidisciplinary senior OH team.
- Preparing and reviewing Occupational Health policies and procedures.
- Representing the department and constabulary at a variety of meetings across the organisation and with external partners.
- Deputising for the OH Unit Lead as required.
- Leading on some workplace streams, such as working groups, Cority, Oscar Kilo standards or similar.
- Participating in multidisciplinary triage of referrals into the department and allocating them appropriately.
- Providing expert guidance on occupational health issues and supporting employees in managing their health conditions, including redeployment.
- Collaborating with HR, safety teams, and management to implement proactive measures for injury prevention and workplace health promotion.
- Maintaining accurate and confidential health records in compliance with regulatory requirements.
Skills, experience and qualifications:
- Registered General Nurse and hold a degree or equivalent in Occupational Health.
- Experience working as a Senior Occupational Health Nurse Advisor would be advantageous.
- In-depth knowledge of occupational health regulations, standards, and best practices.
- Excellent interpersonal and communication skills.
- Ability to work independently and collaboratively in a team-oriented environment.
- Strong organisational and problem-solving skills.
- Ideally proficient in using occupational health software such as Cority, and electronic health records systems.
- Ability to travel around the force area.
