Our in-house Talent Acquisition Team plays a vital role in attracting and recruiting the right people to join Avon and Somerset Police.
We work closely with hiring managers across the organisation to deliver inclusive recruitment campaigns, provide expert recruitment advice, and ensure every candidate has a positive experience.
We're looking for two Recruitment Team Leaders (internally known as Talent Acquisition Officers) to join our friendly and supportive team.
These opportunities have arisen due to colleagues moving into new roles within the organisation.
This is a varied and rewarding role where no two days are the same.
You'll support hiring managers, lead a small team of Talent Assistants, and help shape recruitment processes that are fair, inclusive and accessible.
What you'll be doing
As a Recruitment Team Leader, you'll
- Build strong relationships with hiring managers, helping them attract and recruit the right people.
- Manage the end-to-end recruitment process, from creating engaging job adverts to supporting onboarding.
- Provide guidance and advice on shortlisting, interviews and recruitment best practice.
- Lead and support a small team of Talent Assistants responsible for the administrative aspects of the recruitment processes.
- Represent Avon and Somerset Police at recruitment events, including open days, careers fairs, familiarisation events and candidate briefings and Q&A sessions.
- Sit on interview panels.
- Quality assure our recruitment processes.
- Work collaboratively with colleagues across the wider Talent Acquisition Team to ensure resource is managed effectively.
- Look for opportunities to continuously improve the recruitment experience for candidates and hiring managers.

Essential skills and experience
- Strong communication skills, with the ability to build positive working relationships with a wide range of people.
- Experience of leading, motivating and supporting a team.
- Excellent organisational skills, with the ability to manage competing priorities and a high workload.
- Experience delivering excellent customer service in a customer-focused environment.
- Knowledge and experience of recruitment and selection processes.
You must be able to travel across the force area when required (a driving licence is helpful, but not essential).
Additional information
This is a blended working role, offering a combination of home and office-based working.
Your main office location will be Police Headquarters in Portishead, and you'll typically attend HQ one to two times per week.
There will also be occasions where you'll travel across the force area to support recruitment activities.
- To help us deliver an effective recruitment service, this role includes:
- Two Saturdays per month (8:00am – 4:00pm)
- Two evening shifts per month (1:00pm – 9:00pm)
You'll receive an annual evening and weekend allowance of £1,653.29, plus a rest day during the week before working a Saturday.
Specific working patterns and rest days will be agreed with the successful candidates.

To be eligible to apply for this role you must have a 3 year ‘checkable history’ in the UK – ideally this means that you would have been resident in the UK for the last 3 years.
