Job Description
The Avon and Somerset Police History and Heritage Working Group is inviting volunteers to join a team dedicated to preserving the force’s history and heritage within Avon and Somerset.
Responsibilities
These are the key duties volunteers may undertake. Volunteers can choose the tasks that best suit their interests and skills.
- Assisting with the storage, cleaning and labeling of items in the archive, including uniforms, photographs, documents, and personal safety equipment.
- Arranging and rotating interesting uniform and artefact displays in the force museum, including signage and information sheets where appropriate.
- Engaging positively with internal and external stakeholders, delivering talks or presentations based on the force’s history and heritage.
- Maintaining the History and Heritage electronic archive: adding new entries, performing regular backups, improving data quality, and sharing archive content where appropriate.
- Scanning or transcribing hard copy documents for future preservation.
- Monitoring the group mailbox and responding to internal and external enquiries in a professional manner.
- Arranging collection of donations (using ASC resources).
- Attending and contributing to meetings of the H&H Group, either electronically or in person.
Skills & Experience
- Computer literacy, including familiarity with Outlook (training will be provided on the force archive).
- Attention to detail.
- Ability to collate and present information to various audiences.
- Good presentation skills.
- Passion for preserving and sharing the history of policing.
- Eligibility & Vetting
All applicants will be subject to the Force Vetting Policy and must undertake and maintain the appropriate level of safeguarding training for the role.
The role requires an enhanced Disclosure and Barring Check (DBS) every three years.
