Police Staff Driver Trainer Assessor

The role is varied, and you will deliver many driver training courses which comply with College of Policing Licensing. This role will challenge you but will provide you with a rewarding career. This is an essential role within the Policing organisation, not only in terms of driving standards, reduction of Police accidents and repair costs, but also providing our people with the essential skills to serve our public safely. The Driver Training Team seeks to improve road safety and support police drivers, subsequently improving all aspects of road use at all police driving levels. There is stepped development for any successful applicant which can open good opportunity for personal and professional progress within the unit. Workload is demanding and high paced, with training staff being fully supported in this challenging environment.

Main responsibilities:

• To research, design, create and deliver training events courses and lesson plans in accordance with the National Police Driver Training Learning Programme, using appropriate policies, protocols, and national guidelines.
• To quality assure all training materials and delivery to ensure they meet force, region, and National standards.
• To supervise and deliver police related driver training at the required level i.e. basic, standard, advanced and specialist training, as outlined in the driver training learning program.
• Supervise, assess and evaluate learners’ performance to the required competences, make decisions at the conclusion of training courses.
• Conduct assessments, with regards to awarding, re-authorising, or suspending an individual’s driving authority.
• Conduct individual or group training, coaching and assessing, providing appropriate feedback.

Skills, experience and qualifications required:

• Hold a full and valid UK driving licence for category B motor vehicles (Manual licence).
• A full and current driving licence endorsed to drive C1/D1 categories of vehicle is desirable.
• Hold a National Police Driving Instructors certificate or show potential to be trained towards achieving the PDI qualification.
• Be an approved Driving Instructor Grade A (Police staff) or be an advanced or response police driver with recommendations for advanced training.
• Hold or show potential to work towards a level 3/4 teaching/training qualification as recognised by the College of Policing.
• Experience of delivering training.
• Excellent communication skills with the ability to deliver presentations.
• Be computer literate.
• Experience in effective record keeping and ensuring attention to detail.
• Experience of working on own initiative.
• Able to self-organise and plan effectively.
• Experience of prioritising workloads.

Please note, if you do not hold level 4 teaching qualification you will be required to complete a classroom based assessment prior to interview. To be eligible to apply for this role you must have a 3 year ‘checkable history’ in the UK – ideally this means that you would have been resident in the UK for the last 3 years.
