Are you a detail-oriented experienced investigator with a passion for uncovering the truth and improving public safety? We are seeking a Serious Collision Investigator to join our team. In this challenging but rewarding role you will investigate road traffic collisions involving loss of life and serious injury, working to establish the causes and circumstances of these tragic events.

Responsibilities

  • Conducting in-depth investigations.
  • Interviewing suspects, witnesses and victims.
  • Liaising with forensic specialist and medical examiners, including attending post mortem examinations, to gather crucial evidence regarding the cause of death and contributing factors.
  • Preparing detailed reports and case files, presenting findings in a clear and factual manner.
  • Collaborating with legal teams and providing expert testimony in court proceedings as required.
  • Working compassionately with grieving families, ensuring they are informed and supported throughout the investigation process.

Qualifications

  • PIP level 2 accreditation (or working towards)
  • Strong investigative and analytical skills, with a meticulous attention to detail
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills
  • Emotional maturity, resilience, and professionalism to handle the challenges of working with cases involving the loss of life and grieving families
  • The ability to attend forensic post mortem examinations and work closely with pathologists and forensic experts
  • An understanding of road traffic laws

Additional Information

Applicants should be aware that the role includes attendance at traumatic incidents and post‑mortems, some of which may involve children. Individuals will need the ability to manage the emotional impact of such experiences while maintaining professional boundaries and personal wellbeing.

The successful candidate will hold a valid driving licence or be able to travel around the force area using alternative transport. This is a shift role working the following: earlies 8.00am – 4.00pm; days 12.00pm – 8.00pm; late 2.00pm – 10.00pm and weekend working.

To be eligible to apply for this role you must have a 3 year ‘checkable history’ in the UK – ideally this means that you would have been resident in the UK for the last 3 years.

In person interviews are scheduled to take place in December on a date to be confirmed.
