We have an exciting opportunity with our Mounted Section for an individual who is prepared to work within a professional yard as part of a highly motivated team. You will be responsible for the grooming and presentation of Police Horses to an exceptionally high standard for daily Operational duties. You will be responsible for the maintenance and cleanliness of the stables, paddocks and riding arena. You must be a confident and experienced rider and will be required to school and exercise horses to a high standard. You will have experience within a professional equine establishment. You will be expected to ride solo or accompanied, to exercise horses measuring up to 17.3hh. This is a full time role working 37 hours per week. The mounted team work on a shift pattern, this role attracts weekend and shift allowances in addition to the salary.

In this role your Main Responsibilities will include:

  • Caring of horses on a day to day basis to include changing rugs, feeding, grooming and clipping
  • Exercising of horses, including schooling and operating of the horse walker
  • Mucking out stables, cleaning kit and maintaining equipment
  • Maintaining of the facilities and grasslands

Skills, Qualifications and Experience required:

  • A professional qualification in British Horse Society (BHS) stage 2 (complete, including all 5 modules). Copies of certificates will be requested.
  • Experienced in the routine care of horses
  • Experience of stable management, veterinary care and the exercise of horses
  • Computer literate and confident using standard IT systems and software

This is a shift based role operating on a four week pattern. Hours include weekend working with shifts from 07:00 to 15:00 and 12:00 to 20:00, alongside allocated rest days. Candidates successful at application stage will be invited to complete a practical assessment week commencing 6th July 2026. If successful at the assessment stage you will be invited to interview. To be eligible to apply for this role you must have a 3 year ‘checkable history’ in the UK – ideally this means that you would have been resident in the UK for the last 3 years.
