We have an opportunity for a full time Researcher to join our team as part of Counter Terrorism Policing South West (CTPSW). We are looking for people with the ability to identify relevant information and draw logical conclusions from written information, able to spot potential patterns and connections across different sources of information and data.

We are seeking individuals who can provide high quality research, collate, and evaluate relevant information, from a range of open and closed sources, with accuracy ensuring integrity and security of data. You will have experience of undertaking research using a variety of techniques (qualitative and quantitative) and can provide research findings in suitable verbal, visual or written formats. The role is an office-based position. The successful candidate will be required to obtain and maintain the Intelligence Professionalisation Programme Certification. You must hold a full driving licence or be able to travel around the force area using alternative transport.

Location - One role advertised is based in Exeter, the other role advertised is located at a building that can be reached by public transport or car in under 45 minutes from central Bristol or Taunton.

Essential Skills and Experience Include:

  • Experience of undertaking qualitative and quantitative research
  • Computer literacy with a strong working knowledge of Microsoft packages including Word and Excel
  • Experience of liaison with people in person, over the phone and using software platforms
  • Experience of communicating both orally and in writing, including report writing

Candidates who successfully pass the selection process will be recruited into a reserve pool; this means we will reserve your application for a period of 6 months and offer you positions if/when they become available.

Please note that the vacancy located at a building that can be reached by public transport or car in under 45 minutes from central Bristol or Taunton may involve travel between two locations, the base location as advertised and a location on the edge of central Bristol.

To be eligible to apply for this role you must have a 5 year “checkable history” in the UK – ideally this means that you would have been resident in the UK for the last 5 years. This post requires access to the most sensitive intelligence material on a daily basis. Applicants must hold or be prepared to undergo National Security Vetting (NSV) Security Check (enhanced) (SC(e)) level before taking up the post; with a willingness to undergo Developed Vetting (DV) once in post, if required. This post requires British nationality (some dual nationals may be ineligible) and an Enhanced Security Check (eSC)/Developed Vetting (DV) clearance.

As the post holder will have access to very sensitive information, there are limitations on travelling to a small number of countries and we will undertake additional security checks as part of the recruitment process. Applications from candidates with close connections to certain countries may take considerably longer to process, or in some cases result in a withdrawal of an offer of employment. Further details will be provided at the conditional offer stage.

Avon and Somerset Constabulary welcomes applicants from all minority groups, which reflect the diversity of the communities we serve. We are a family friendly force and operate a positive equal opportunities policy.

Diversity is a strength and individuality is an asset. We recognise the benefit different life experience and perspectives can bring. We are on a journey to become the most inclusive police force in the country.

Please note: We reserve the right to close this vacancy early if we receive a high volume of applications. We encourage interested candidates to apply as soon as possible to ensure their application is considered.
