About the role: An opportunity has arisen for a permanent Senior Subject Matter Expert (SME) & Technical Expert within the Business Systems Improvement Team (BSIT). Niche is our core records management system used to record, manage and share information about crimes, non-crimes, people and investigations. Pronto is a mobile digital policing platform allowing front line officers to complete tasks remotely. The role assists with managing the complexity and volume of demand for change.
As an operational lead for BSIT, the role deals with engaging with key stakeholders and SMEs in relation to system improvement requests and day‑to‑day queries and escalations from business areas and SMEs. The Senior SME & Technical Expert manages the efficient workflow of BSIT requests from start to finish, co‑ordinating activity across Niche and Pronto and a multitude of other systems and interfaces using technical knowledge, as well as allocating work to the SMEs and line managing a small team. The role is responsible for project managing smaller projects, assisting the BSIT Manager with planning and forecasting future demand and resourcing and deputising for the BSIT Manager in their absence.
This is a hybrid role which can be done remotely, however there is an expectation of working from Exeter or Dorset during the induction period and at least once a month as required. Any costs incurred such as travel will be at the post holder's expense. With Niche being the core police system, knowledge and understanding of how it works is essential to this role.
