We have a rare opportunity for a Coroners Officer to join our team. Our team, consisting of 6 Coroners Officers and 1 Senior Coroners Officer, covers a wide area of Avon. You will investigate and administer, promptly and thoroughly, all sudden, unnatural deaths and treasure trove cases within the jurisdiction, working with the Coroner and Police. You will gather evidence for unnatural, unexplained, or unexpected deaths to assist the coroner in decision-making. This role is 26 hours per week, working approximately 3.5 days. When not working from home, a designated office space is available at the Coroner’s Court or the mortuary at Flax Bourton.
Main Responsibilities
- Receiving reports of sudden or unnatural deaths, especially suspicious cases.
- Notifying the Coroner of all relevant details and liaising with Detectives if criminal investigation is possible.
- Establishing medical history, obtaining witness statements, and discussing cases with family doctors.
- Arranging body removal, managing property, organizing post mortems, and ensuring proper identification and sample handling.
- Assisting with urgent inquiries for organ transplants by obtaining necessary authorizations.
