Job Description

Full‑time, permanent. Part‑time hours may be considered. Salary: A&S PO6-9. Location: SWROCU Northern Hub, Bristol (BS34 6PY). Travel requirements should be discussed with the hiring manager before applying.

Role Summary

As Communications Manager you will devise and deliver impactful internal and external communication strategies aligned to regional and national priorities. You will work closely with senior leaders, officers and staff across all capabilities, promoting the specialist services provided by the unit to relevant audiences. Partnerships are central: you will liaise with a wide range of organisations across law enforcement and other sectors to help achieve the unit’s strategic objectives. You will provide expert advice on communications for sensitive investigations and tactics, collaborate with media, and champion internal communications to recognise staff and keep them informed and supported.

Essential Skills, Experience and Qualifications Required

  • Substantial experience developing and delivering high‑impact, integrated communications and/or campaigns.
  • Natural communicator with exceptional writing skills and ability to create compelling content for diverse audiences.
  • Experience managing a portfolio of communication channels, including intranet and/or web and/or internet‑based content management systems.
  • Excellent oral and written communication skills.
  • Significant experience in a fast‑paced journalistic, press office and/or strategic communications role within a large and complex organisation.
  • Experience devising and implementing media and reputation management strategies.
  • Experience working with senior leaders to deliver accurate communications.
  • Experience managing queries from local and national media, preparing media releases, statements, briefings and guidance.
  • Experience writing for external websites and social media with appropriate tone of voice.
  • Organised and possessing a strong network of relationships with local/national media.
