An established construction and M&E services company is seeking a proactive Business Development Manager to build relationships, gather project intelligence, and open new opportunities for the engineering team. This is not a marketing or internal sales role; it is a hands-on, client-facing position suited to someone who thrives on being out meeting contractors, understanding how projects are run, and securing the right introductions for tender opportunities.

You will be given a warm list of existing clients to begin with, but the expectation is to build on this network, generate leads, and become the go-to person for understanding who is running what, where, and when.

About the Role

This role is central to the company’s growth. You’ll spend most of your time out with clients, finding out:

  • Which projects they have in the pipeline
  • Who is running each job
  • Who controls costs, labour and subcontractors
  • What opportunities are coming up
  • How to get the engineering team into early tender conversations

Your job is to open doors, gather accurate information, build relationships and pass warm, qualified opportunities to senior leadership and engineers to tender and win projects.

This is a role for someone who enjoys meeting people, picking up the phone, asking questions, uncovering the details, and driving opportunities forward.

Key Responsibilities

  • Build strong relationships with main contractors, subcontractors, developers, consultants and M&E contacts.
  • Meet clients regularly on-site or in their offices to understand project flow and upcoming opportunities.
  • Identify who is running projects, who manages costs, and who makes decisions.
  • Track pipeline activity and gather intel on future works, project timings, and tender schedules.
  • Generate new leads and nurture existing ones, developing them into live tender opportunities.
  • Introduce the engineering and leadership team to the right people at the right time.
  • Maintain a clear understanding of client structures, stakeholders, and project responsibilities.
  • Represent the company confidently and professionally within the industry.

What We’re Looking For

  • Background in construction, M&E, building services or materials supply.
  • Experience in business development, client relationships, field sales or contractor engagement.
  • Someone who enjoys being out meeting people — not a desk-based marketer.
  • Confident, personable, persistent and commercially aware.
  • Comfortable asking direct questions and gathering detailed information.
  • Able to build a network quickly and create opportunities from warm and cold approaches.
  • Strong communicator with excellent relationship-building skills.

What’s on Offer

  • Competitive salary with clear progression pathway to Directorship
  • Opportunity to shape the company’s business development function.
  • Warm list of existing clients to get started.
  • Supportive team and leadership who will back your ideas and initiatives.
  • Real autonomy to build relationships and drive growth.
