Avolon M&E are working with a client who are looking to recruit an electrically-biased Estimator to join their team based in Barnet. They are a well-known electrical contractor, serving homes and businesses across London and the South East.

Job Overview: A leading electrical contractor is seeking a motivated and detail-oriented Junior Electrical Estimator to join their pre-construction team. This is an excellent opportunity for someone early in their estimating career or with a background in electrical engineering who is looking to transition into a commercial role. The successful candidate will assist in preparing accurate and competitive cost estimates for a range of electrical projects across the commercial, retail, and industrial sectors.
Responsibilities:
- Assist in the preparation of tenders and cost estimates for electrical installations.
- Interpret drawings, specifications, and scope documents to assess project requirements.
- Liaise with suppliers and subcontractors to obtain quotations and assess best value.
- Support the senior estimating team with quantity take-offs and cost breakdowns.
- Help prepare bid submissions and ensure compliance with client requirements.
- Participate in handover meetings with project delivery teams.
- Keep accurate records of tenders submitted and outcomes.
- Stay up to date with market rates, industry trends, and technical standards.
Qualifications:
Essential:
- Some experience in an electrical estimating or related role (e.g. electrical engineering, site-based roles, or procurement) is preferred.
- Basic understanding of electrical systems, terminology, and components.
- Strong numeracy, analytical, and organisational skills.
- Excellent attention to detail and ability to work under pressure.
- Proficient in Microsoft Excel and comfortable learning estimating software.
- Good communication skills and ability to work as part of a team.
Desirable:
- Qualification in Electrical Engineering, Building Services, or a related technical discipline (HNC/HND or equivalent).
- Familiarity with electrical estimating software such as Trimble/Amtech or similar.
- Understanding of the tender process and commercial principles.
