This role is a hybrid role working out of our Leeds office 3 days per week.
What will you be doing?
- Linux & Red Hat Enterprise Linux (RHEL) Administration of RHEL 7/8/9, including installation, patching, upgrades, and lifecycle management.
- System performance tuning, troubleshooting, and root cause analysis.
- User, group, permissions, and SELinux management.
- Filesystem and storage management (LVM, XFS, ext4, NFS).
- Support of physical and virtual Linux servers in enterprise environments.
- Experience with VMware and Red Hat Virtualization platforms.
- Backup, recovery, and capacity planning support.
- Bash scripting for operational automation.
- Ansible playbooks and roles for configuration management.
- Standardisation and reduction of configuration drift.
- Azure Linux Virtual Machines and storage services.
- Azure networking: VNets, NSGs, Load Balancers, VPN integration.
- Hybrid connectivity between on-prem and Azure, including identity and DNS integration.
- Container fundamentals using Docker and Podman.
- AKS cluster operations, scaling, and node management.
- Workload deployment, persistent storage, and monitoring.
- OpenShift cluster operations and platform support.
- OS hardening, access control, and certificate management.
- Platform monitoring, logging, and alerting.
- Incident, change, and problem management in production environments.
What about you?
An experienced individual able to perform system administration tasks and hands-on support on a variety of Unix, Linux, and Cloud-based systems. Familiarity with Red Hat Enterprise Linux (RHEL) versions 5 through 9 and any yum-based operating systems is essential. You work effectively with application support and development teams to implement necessary infrastructure for business systems. You possess skills in Linux integrations, Active Directory SSSD, system log management, and system performance tuning (e.g., kernel tweaking using sysctl.conf). A proactive team player who supports both project and operational tasks, continuously refining procedures to foster improvement within the team. You have a solid understanding of O/S hardening practices to enhance system security. Proficient in virtualization technologies like VMware vSphere, Kubernetes (AKS/OpenShift), and cloud environments (Azure, GCP). Experienced in container technologies using Azure Container Store or Artifactory and CI/CD pipelines using GitLab.
GENERAL AND SOFT SKILLS:
- Proficient in scripting with Bash, PowerShell, PowerCLI, and Perl for various automation and integration tasks.
- Strong documentation skills are required for maintaining clear and up-to-date records.
- Ability to describe technical solutions clearly to a non-technical audience is crucial.
- Flexible in approach, able to prioritize work effectively and adapt to both agile and sometimes waterfall methodologies.
