Farnell, an Avnet company, is a global high‑service distributor of technology products, services and solutions for electronic system design, maintenance and repair. We are looking for someone on a 12‑month secondment to serve as Hazardous Goods Packer at our UK1 distribution centre. This role requires meticulous attention to detail, adherence to safety regulations, and the ability to work in a fast‑paced environment.
Job Summary
The Hazardous Goods Packer is responsible for the safe and efficient packing of hazardous materials for transportation, maintaining accurate records and ensuring compliance with regulatory standards.
What will you be doing?
- Safely and efficiently pack hazardous goods according to established guidelines and regulations.
- Ensure all packed goods are correctly labelled and documented in compliance with relevant regulations (e.g., OSHA, DOT, IATA, IMDG, ADR).
- Inspect packages for leaks, spills, or damage and take appropriate action to mitigate risks.
- Maintain accurate records of packed goods and complete necessary paperwork.
- Coordinate with shipping and receiving departments to ensure timely dispatch of packed goods.
- Operate packaging equipment and tools in a safe and effective manner.
- Conduct regular inventory checks of hazardous materials and packaging supplies.
- Follow all safety protocols and wear appropriate personal protective equipment (PPE).
- Participate in safety training programs and stay updated on regulatory changes.
- Assist in emergency response procedures related to hazardous materials.
What will you need?
- Minimum of 1 year experience in a similar role, preferably within the logistics or transportation industry.
- Strong understanding of hazardous materials regulations (OSHA, DOT, IATA, IMDG).
- Excellent attention to detail and organizational skills.
- Ability to work independently and as part of a team.
- Good communication skills, both written and verbal.
- Physical ability to lift and move packages.
- Forklift certification (desirable).
Preferred Skills
- Certification in hazardous materials handling (e.g., HAZWOPER, HazMat).
- Shipment of dangerous goods by road sea and air certification – ADR & IMDG.
- Experience with inventory management systems.
- Basic knowledge of first aid and emergency response procedures.
