AVL Powertrain UK is looking for Electrified Powertrain Development Engineers to support start‑of‑production projects. The candidate will work closely with customers to develop, test and optimise electrified powertrain performance for future vehicle programmes, plan and execute test work on developmental rigs, and provide clear data analysis and reporting. This is a temporary role for an initial 12‑month fixed term, which may be extended or made permanent.
Responsibilities
- Responsible for the testing campaign from requirement definition to data analysis and reporting.
- Define the testing requirement (technical and timing) with the Subject Matter Expert.
- Supervise the testing facility set‑up to ensure rig and unit under test fulfil requirements (BoM creation).
- Provide on‑site support at customer or other facilities as needed to monitor and ensure good delivery of the testing campaign.
- Process data timely and analyse data that will be used to make engineering decisions.
- Deliver daily summary updates on project and testing status to all project stakeholders.
- Log and assign any issues formally.
- Provide technical direction to test facilities and other stakeholders.
- Support internal AVL presentations and participate in trainings and knowledge exchange.
Qualifications
- Minimum of a 2:1 Bachelor's or Master's degree in a relevant engineering discipline (Mechanical, Automotive, etc.).
- Experience in powertrain development or testing.
- Electric drive unit and battery experience/knowledge.
- Excellent analytical skills with ability to summarise and make clear technical recommendations across multifunctional disciplines with supporting data.
- Self‑starter with the ability to work with high level instruction, minimal detail breakdown and to seek out relevant information, data and support from other engineering groups.
- Ability to communicate technical information effectively, both written and verbal, with AVL and customer team members.
- Flexible and adaptable to move onto other commodities (battery, charging, inverter, etc.).
- Preferred: Agile/Scrum process experience.
- Preferred: MATLAB and/or Python scripting experience.
