AVL Powertrain UK Ltd offers an exciting opportunity for a passionate and enthusiastic Junior Engineer/Graduate Engineer to join our thriving DDI Department (Design, Development and Industrialization) based in our Coventry office. This is an opportunity to play a crucial part in the development of modern passenger car powertrain systems.
RESPONSIBILITIES
- Contribute to electrical component design activities; proficiency in at least one CAD package is advantageous.
- Apply an understanding of the automotive development process across concept, design, verification, and industrialisation stages.
- Support system-level and component-level requirements engineering.
- Interpret 1D/3D analysis data and assess impacts on component design.
- Assist in the development of DFMEA, DVPs, and component test plans.
- Analyse test data and provide design-impact assessments.
- Prepare technical reports and communicate findings verbally and in writing.
- Collaborate with cross-functional teams and interface with clients, suppliers, and internal stakeholders.
- Support the creation, review, and sign-off of component specifications.
- Represent and promote AVL competences and services within customer environments.
- Travel within the UK and internationally may be required.
PROFILE
- Essential: Strong academic background in Electrical/Electronic Engineering or a related discipline.
- Demonstrated ability to manage workload, prioritise tasks, and meet deadlines.
- Effective communication skills and willingness to work in a collaborative team setting.
- Self‑driven, curious, and comfortable operating in dynamic engineering environments.
- Understanding of vehicle/powertrain system and component requirements (e‑machines, hybrid systems, battery systems, etc.).
- Awareness of FMEA, DVP&R, 8D Techniques.
- Strong presentation skills.
- Driving licence.
- Willingness to travel.
- Open minded, flexible ‘can do’ attitude.
- Preferable: Specific experience on battery, fuel cell or EDU design & development.
- Masters or PhD in specific subject area.
- Member of a relevant professional institute (e.g. IET, IMechE).
- Knowledge/experience in CAD tools such as Catia, NX or equivalent.
