About the role:
We are looking for an experienced and driven Project Manager to head up a major infrastructure project at Portsmouth Naval Base, managing the replacement of penstocks. This is a high-profile, long-term project expected to span 2–3 years with a large total value to our business. It’s a unique opportunity to lead a strategically significant scheme in a historic and operationally critical setting.
As the dedicated on-site lead, you'll oversee all aspects of project execution from planning and procurement to handover ensuring work is delivered safely on time, and within budget. You'll also play a pivotal role in building and leading a new on-site team, including five of our own Site Technicians, while managing a range of specialist subcontractors across demolition, civils, electrical, scaffolding, craneage, and structural steelwork.
Candidates must be eligible to obtain Security Clearance (BPSS/SC) to work on a Royal Navy site.
What You'll Be Doing
- Act as the single point of accountability for day-to-day delivery of the project.
- Oversee all site-based activity and coordinate with Operations, Sales, Finance, and QHSE teams.
- Develop and manage resource plans, including recruitment and onboarding of site staff.
- Manage subcontractors to ensure all work packages are delivered to specification and standards.
- Maintain regular communication and positive working relationships with the customer.
Health, Safety & Compliance
- Uphold the highest safety standards in line with company policy and industry regulations.
- Prepare and approve RAMS and other H&S documentation with support from internal teams.
- Ensure site works are carried out in full compliance with contractual and legal obligations.
Commercial & Strategic Delivery
- Monitor budgets, timelines, and milestones, reporting progress internally and to the client.
- Ensure timely and accurate submission of timesheets, expenses, and invoices.
- Support forecasting and revenue recognition by sharing clear and consistent project updates.
- Adopt a continuous improvement mindset to drive efficiency and excellence.
What We're Looking For
- 5+ years’ experience managing large-scale infrastructure or utility projects.
- Strong leadership experience, ideally including the recruitment and management of site-based teams.
- Proven track record of successfully delivering complex works involving multiple subcontractors and managing projects of around £10million+ value.
- Excellent communication, organisational, and stakeholder management skills.
- Deep understanding of site safety, compliance, and quality control ideally within confined space.
Why Join Us?
- Be at the forefront of a landmark naval infrastructure upgrade.
- Take ownership of a high-value project with full end-to-end delivery responsibility.
- Shape and lead your own site team in a respected and growing organisation.
- Work in a collaborative culture with strong values around safety, integrity, and delivery excellence.
- A culture of promoting personal development, with ample opportunity for training and earning qualifications.
- A culture of shared values, goals, attitudes, and business growth.
- Employee Assistance Programme (Welfare and Wellbeing).
- 33 days holiday (including statutory Public Holidays).
- Life Assurance plan (x3).
- Company pension plan.
- Discounts and cashback across many high-street and online retailers (Supermarkets, Entertainment, Fashion, Days Out, Technology, Home, and Travel).
