The Offshore Underwriting Manager is responsible for providing technical leadership and strategic direction across Aviva's Offshore Renewable Energy underwriting portfolio. The role ensures consistent, high-quality underwriting aligned with regulatory requirements, market best practice, and Aviva's broader sustainability ambitions. A core focus is supporting profitable growth in the offshore renewable energy sector while supporting clients' needs as well as the global energy transition. The role acts as a technical authority within the Offshore Renewable Energy segment, shaping underwriting standards, driving product and proposition development, and supporting complex referrals. It requires deep subject-matter expertise – particularly in offshore wind – and strong leadership capability to influence stakeholders across underwriting, risk management, claims and leadership. This role may also include people management responsibilities, ensuring the effective development, coaching, and performance oversight of underwriters or technical specialists within the Renewable Energy team. The role holder will contribute to building capability, supporting succession planning, and fostering a collaborative, high-performance culture.

Key Responsibilities

  • Technical Leadership – Act as a centre of expertise for Offshore Renewable Energy underwriting, providing authoritative guidance across construction and operational phases. Develop and maintain underwriting standards, controls, and governance frameworks to ensure consistency, quality, and compliance. Provide specialist input on complex risks, referrals, and portfolio decisions.
  • Strategic Contribution – Shape the technical and strategic direction of the Offshore Renewable Energy portfolio in line with Aviva's sustainability strategy and growth ambitions. Identify emerging risks, technology trends, and market developments, ensuring Aviva remains competitive and informed. Contribute to market strategy, pricing approaches, risk selection frameworks, and long-term planning.
  • People Management – Lead, support, or mentor underwriters and technical specialists, contributing to skills development and capability uplift across the team. Provide structured coaching, performance feedback, and technical training to enhance underwriting competence and consistency. Support workforce planning, recruitment, and succession development. Promote a collaborative, inclusive culture that encourages knowledge sharing, innovation, and continuous improvement.
  • Product & Proposition Development – Lead improvements to products, wordings, endorsements, and underwriting tools. Support the evolution of Aviva's propositions to reflect new technologies and customer needs. Drive innovation across the portfolio to enhance client value and support broker relationships.
  • Stakeholder Collaboration – Work closely with underwriters, risk management, claims and leadership to ensure a unified portfolio approach. Engage with brokers, clients, and external partners to support market positioning and develop Aviva's lead capabilities. Provide clear, structured communication to support decision-making at senior levels.
