A bit about the job
We’re looking for an Underwriting Assistant to join our Global Corporate & Specialty International Property team. You’ll support underwriters by logging new submissions, completing sanctions and licence checks, managing underwriting files, and carrying out daily risk capture quality checks. You’ll work closely with brokers, Compliance, Operations, Finance, Actuarial, and third‑party partners to resolve queries, support month‑end processes, and keep policy data accurate and up to date. You’ll also review broker presentations, populate rating tools under underwriter guidance, and manage documents to agreed standards. Your work will help the team make confident underwriting decisions and deliver a strong service to our brokers and customers.
Skills and experience we’re looking for:
- Strong attention to detail and commitment to data accuracy, with the ability to spot errors, follow processes, and maintain high standards across underwriting and policy records.
- Ability to organise work and manage competing priorities, staying focused and responsive in a fast‑paced environment with changing deadlines.
- Clear and confident communication skills, with the confidence to work collaboratively with underwriters, brokers, and internal teams.
- A genuine interest in underwriting and the specialty insurance market, with curiosity to learn and develop technical knowledge over time.
- Experience in insurance or financial services is helpful but not essential, as we’re happy to support the right person with training and development.
What you’ll get for this role:
- Competitive salary (depending on location, skills, experience, and qualifications).
- Bonus opportunity - 8% of annual salary (actual amount depends on performance and Aviva’s).
- Generous pension scheme – Aviva will contribute up to 14%, depending on what you put in.
- 29 days holiday plus bank holidays, and the option to buy or sell up to 5 days.
- Aviva-funded Private Medical Benefit to help you get expert support when you need it.
- Up to 40% discount on Aviva products, and other retailer discounts.
- Up to £1,200 of free Aviva shares per year through our Matching Share Plan and share in the success of Aviva with our Save As You Earn scheme.
- Brilliantly supportive policies, including parental and carer’s leave.
- Flexible benefits to suit you, including sustainability options such as cycle to work.
- Make a difference, be part of Aviva Communities and use your 3 paid volunteering days to help others.
- We take your wellbeing seriously with lots of support and tools.
