Overview

We have a new opportunity within our Southampton Commercial Underwriting Team as a New Business Commercial Underwriter. This role involves partnering with brokers and customers to understand their needs, using data insights to provide holistic customer solutions. The role is aligned to a portfolio of brokers/customers within the Poole or Bournemouth area and is suitable for someone who can proactively grow a commercial book of business.

A bit about the job: you will work collaboratively within one of our Southeast underwriting teams to support the Senior Underwriter and Team Manager in delivering financials. Strong organisation and time management skills are essential, including the ability to manage your own diary in a fast-paced environment.

Responsibilities

  • Underwrite commercial new business with a consistent track record
  • Engage with insurance brokers and/or customers
  • Visit brokers to develop, build, and strengthen relationships and maintain market visibility
  • Mentor and develop others
  • Work toward underwriting licence levels appropriate to your job grade

Skills and experience

  • Previous Property and Liability underwriting experience or Motor trade & Fleet
  • Ability to analyse risks and communicate effectively to brokers and/or customers
  • Collaborative work style within a large, complex organisation
  • Good knowledge of the FCA and other relevant regulation and legislation
  • Strong commercial business insight to create and deliver business cases
