UK SME Solutions Underwriter
Manchester or Leeds

We have a fantastic opportunity for an experienced Technical Liability Class Underwriter to be part of the UK Commercial Solutions Team, operating at UK level supporting our regional trading teams to develop and implement solutions for our most complex customers and risk profiles. You’ll be joining a very high-skilled UK team, working on a complex and technical scale, and supporting end-to-end large customer and client relationships.
This is a great role for someone with high levels of underwriting authority, capability and market presence looking to further develop their knowledge and segment specialisms, maximising opportunities through development of market leading propositions & solutions for individual cases and blocks of business working closely with the Trading and Broker Performance Team. Direct engagement with broker partners and customers, working closely with the CRM (Client Relationship Management) to provide the underwriting technical solutions. The role offers exposure to multi-national liability programmes, complex placement strategies, and high-value cases (with premiums ranging from £50k to £2.5million).
About the role
- Assist with the Underwriting Strategy, philosophy/principles, best practice & processes
- Leads continual development of our open market propositions for commercial Mid-Market.
- Develop & Leads strong Commercial Liability Underwriting capability across the trading teams
- Ensure knowledge & insight into performance of the Mid Market Commercial Liability Class which supports SME Planning & performance and links to the CUO Team
- Ensure develop leading knowledge, capability and expertise across the Commercial Liability Class and key Industry Sectors.
Skills and experience we’re looking for:
- Expertise in Commercial Liability Underwriting — this role requires a sole focus on the Liability class, with deep technical knowledge and experience handling complex and high-value cases.
- Proven ability to operate at a UK-wide strategic level, supporting regional trading teams and influencing underwriting performance across the Commercial Mid-Market segment.
- Strong broker and customer engagement skills, with experience in developing bespoke liability solutions and managing relationships across a wide portfolio.
- High levels of underwriting authority and autonomy, with the ability to act as a technical referral point and coach for other underwriters.
- Commercial acumen and strategic thinking, with the ability to contribute to proposition development, market growth, and performance improvement.
