Salary circa £90,000 Fixed Term Contract role until the end of 2026. We are keen to speak with candidates who are available to join at short notice or immediately. This is a great job for someone who is passionate about risk, controls and good governance, and enjoys operating at the centre of complex technology and business environments. You might already be leading risk and control activity at a senior level or be ready to step up into a more strategic role with direct exposure to executive leadership. If you’re comfortable joining the dots across cyber, digital, data and technology risk—and translating complexity into clear, confident advice—this role offers real scope and influence. It’s also a great fit if you enjoy building strong senior relationships and shaping risk conversations rather than just reporting on them.

A bit about the job: This role exists to provide strategic leadership of the Risk and Controls agenda across CIO Customer & Marketing, helping to ensure our technology services are well governed, resilient and compliant. You will own the CIO C&M risk and control environment, embedding ORCM (Operational Risk and Control Management) and maintaining a strong, effective control framework across platforms and delivery cycles. Working closely with the CIO and senior leadership team, you will identify risks early, provide oversight of RED controls and recovery plans, and ensure leaders clearly understand their control responsibilities. In this role, you will act as the primary risk interface between CIO C&M and groups such as Cyber GRC, CIO Risk & Assurance and Group Risk, keeping everything aligned and joined up. Ultimately, you will enable confident decision‑making by giving the CIO clear insight into our risk posture, backed by simple, compelling narratives and robust governance.

Skills and experience we’re looking for:

  • Deep expertise in risk and control frameworks, with the ability to look holistically across technology, cyber and governance controls rather than operating in silos.
  • Proven experience leading Risk & Controls in complex technology environments, managing real‑world risk and control oversight across platforms, suppliers and delivery teams, not just within a single governance or assurance function.
  • Strong ability to operate as a strategic connector, bridging central technology governance, C&M risk and control functions, and operational technology teams to ensure consistent, embedded accountability.
  • Credible senior‑level influencer and communicator, able to brief CIOs and senior leaders, prepare clear governance packs, and translate risk and control positions into actionable decision‑making.

What you’ll get for this role:

  • Salary circa £90,000 (depending on location, skills, experience, and qualifications).
  • Bonus opportunity – 12% of annual salary. Actual amount depends on your performance and Aviva’s.
  • Generous pension scheme – Aviva will contribute up to 14%, depending on what you put in.
  • 29 days holiday plus bank holidays, and you can choose to buy or sell up to 5 days.
  • Aviva‑funded Private Medical Benefit to help you get expert support when you need it.
  • Make your money go further – Up to 40% discount on Aviva products, and other retailer discounts.
  • Up to £1,200 of free Aviva shares per year through the Matching Share Plan and share in the success of Aviva with the Save As You Earn scheme.
  • Brilliantly supportive policies including parental and carer’s leave.
  • Flexible benefits to suit you, including sustainability options such as cycle to work.
  • Make a difference, be part of our Aviva Communities and use your 3 paid volunteering days to help others.
  • We take your wellbeing seriously with lots of support and tools.

Aviva is for everyone: We’re inclusive and welcome everyone – we want applications from all backgrounds and experiences. Excited but not sure you tick every box? Even if you don’t, we would still encourage you to apply. We also consider all forms of flexible working, including part time and job shares. We flex locations, hours and working patterns to suit our customers, business, and you. Most of our people are smart working – spending at least 50% of their time in our offices every week - combining the benefits of flexibility, with time together with colleagues.
