This is a rare opportunity to play a foundational role in Aviva’s new US office, helping shape how we manage complex, high‑value US commercial property claims from the outset. The role is ideal for an experienced US Property claims professional who enjoys technical challenge, influence, and building strong international partnerships. You’ll take on significant responsibility and visibility, acting as a senior technical referral point for US Property claims while helping embed Aviva standards, governance, and ways of working across our developing US platform.
A bit about the job: This role exists to protect Aviva and our customers by delivering strong, consistent outcomes on complex US Property claims as part of our expanding US presence. You’ll sit within the International Property Claims team in GCS, with a specific focus on claims arising from our new US division and office. From day one, you’ll play a key role in helping to establish effective claims oversight, governance, and technical standards as the US operation grows. Working closely with underwriters, brokers, internal stakeholders, and our Third‑Party Administrator (TPA), you’ll:
- Provide technical leadership and challenge on the largest and most complex US Property losses
- Set and agree clear claim strategies, ensuring timely, fair, and financially robust settlements
- Act as a trusted escalation point for complex coverage, reserving, and settlement issues
- Help shape and embed best practice US claims handling aligned to Aviva’s global standards
This role combines hands‑on technical judgement with the opportunity to influence how Aviva builds and matures its US Property claims capability.
Skills and experience we’re looking for:
- Strong experience handling complex, high‑value US commercial property claims
- Deep knowledge of US Property coverage, loss adjusting, and settlement practices
- Confidence providing technical direction and constructive challenge to Third‑Party Administrators
- An established network of US experts and suppliers (e.g. adjusters, lawyers, forensic accountants)
- Experience with reserving, governance, and regulatory requirements in a US context
- A relevant professional qualification (or equivalent senior claims experience)
- Experience supporting new teams, new markets, or start‑up environments will be particularly valuable, as will an appetite for shaping processes rather than simply operating within them.
What you’ll get for this role:
- Competitive salary (depending on skills, experience, and qualifications).
- Bonus opportunity - 10% of annual salary. Actual amount depends on your performance and Aviva’s.
- Generous pension scheme – Aviva will contribute up to 14%, depending on what you put in.
- 29 days holiday plus bank holidays, and you can choose to buy or sell up to 5 days.
- Aviva‑funded Private Medical Benefit to help you get expert support when you need it.
- Make your money go further – Up to 40% discount on Aviva products, and other retailer discounts.
- Up to £1,200 of free Aviva shares per year through our Matching Share Plan and share in the success of Aviva with our Save As You Earn scheme.
- Brilliantly supportive policies including parental and carer’s leave.
- Flexible benefits to suit you, including sustainability options such as cycle to work.
- Make a difference, be part of our Aviva Communities and use your 3 paid volunteering days to help others.
- We take your wellbeing seriously with lots of support and tools.
