As part of the Tax team, which provides expert tax services to the UK companies within the Group and to Aviva Investors (as manager of a range of regulated and unregulated funds), the role involves working with colleagues across five locations. The tax team covers a wide scope including Customer and Product taxes, Operational and Transaction Taxes, Insurance Premium Taxes, Corporation Tax, Life Tax, VAT and Employment Taxes.
This role will primarily be focussed on providing advice and support relating to life products, including bonds, pensions, and endowment type policies, and tax matters attached to customers from Aviva products. The role supports the BUs with understanding and articulating the key tax issues arising from customer products, with significant focus on chargeable events, bonds, life assurance and pensions products. The role includes providing advice to internal teams and leading on chargeable events matters with HMRC and reviewing customer literature.
The day-to-day responsibilities of the role will include:
- Strong knowledge of chargeable events legislation and guidance
- Strong communication and collaboration skills (the role will require liaison both internally and externally, with Aviva’s 3rd party partners and HMRC)
- A good technical knowledge of life products, including bonds, pensions, and endowment type policies.
- Strong comms skills for dealing with lots of different teams internally.
- Liaising with colleagues across the business to ensure appropriate prioritisation.
- Ensuring accurate and appropriate customer and product tax documentation across the business.
- Technical support on chargeable events reporting and any corresponding HMRC controversy.
- Ongoing consideration of process improvements.
Skills and experience we’re looking for:
- A good technical knowledge of life products, including bonds, pensions, and endowment type policies.
- The successful candidate will be either an accountant, qualified tax professional or otherwise comparably qualified by experience (gained either in industry or in practice).
- Able to demonstrate strong customer and product tax knowledge and experience, with an ability to readily evaluate and effectively communicate the impact of new developments.
- They will be a team player with an open, collaborative, and proactive approach, willing to test new ideas and embrace change, looking for opportunities to identify and address key issues and simplify existing processes.
- Strong capabilities in MS Office applications are essential, as is good experience of creating and editing documents.
