Salary: Circa £55k

This is a great job for someone who is an experienced software engineer who wants to lead the design and delivery of enterprise‑grade AI products and platforms. You’ll likely be comfortable owning technical direction, shaping architecture, and setting high engineering standards across design, build, testing, deployment, and support.

This role will suit someone who enjoys solving complex problems, mentoring others, and working across product, platform, data, and governance teams to deliver secure, scalable solutions that have real business impact.

A bit about the job

You’ll be a senior software engineer within a dynamic team building and evolving generative AI services, applications, and platforms for Aviva and our customers. Working with rich data and modern cloud tooling, you’ll lead the engineering of production‑ready solutions across the full lifecycle—from solution design and API development to deployment, observability, resilience, and continuous improvement.

You’ll partner closely with architects, product owners, platform engineers, and governance colleagues to ensure what we build is robust, maintainable, secure, and compliant. This role is about combining strong software engineering discipline with modern AI capabilities to help embed AI as a strategic enterprise capability.

Skills and experience we’re looking for

  • Experience designing solution architectures, APIs, and integration patterns for distributed or cloud‑native systems, with a focus on maintainability, performance, and resilience
  • Hands‑on experience with cloud platforms such as AWS, containerisation, and modern DevOps practices including CI/CD, automated testing and observability
  • A strong understanding of software quality, secure engineering, and operational excellence, including release management, incident response, and engineering best practice in regulated environments
  • Proven ability to provide technical leadership through code reviews, mentoring, cross‑team collaboration, and clear communication with both engineering and non‑technical stakeholders
