Are you someone who would like to be part of our high-profile Data Engineering Team? We are seeking an enthusiastic Data Engineer Specialist to be part of our innovative team which helps shape the future of the life insurance business at Aviva. You'll work and guide the work of a team of data engineers using languages of SQL and some Python in market leading tools like Snowflake and dbt (as well as SQL Server) to transform raw data from multiple systems into business focused information.
A bit about the job: We work across all business lines, delivering data analytics solutions for protection, healthcare, wealth, COO and retirement.
We are looking to find candidates who can:
- Lead the design and delivery of scalable data products, translating complex business problems into robust data solutions and owning core data pipelines and platform reliability.
- Work closely with data scientists to provide high-quality, well-modelled data that enables advanced analytics and data science use cases.
- Communicate effectively with non-technical stakeholders, clearly explaining data solutions, progress, risks, and issues across project and BAU work.
- Ensure strong data governance and engineering standards, producing clear high- and low-level designs, maintaining documentation, and ensuring data is used appropriately and securely.
- Provide technical leadership and mentorship to data engineers through coaching, code and design reviews, and collaboration across engineering, and wider business teams to embed best practices.
Skills and experience we're looking for:
- Proven experience designing, developing, and optimizing data solutions in Snowflake and ability to build and maintain modular, testable, and well-documented transformations using dbt.
- Hands-on experience creating robust data pipelines and data products for analytics. Familiarity with tools like DataIku or Informatica is advantageous.
- Knowledge of CI/CD processes and in particular tools like ADO (Azure Dev Ops) would be very beneficial as this will be key to our delivery and deployment processes.
- Understanding of data modelling techniques particularly those suited to analytical data (Data Vault and Dimensional Modelling).
- Familiarity with healthcare or insurance data domains is a plus, as you'll be working on critical data products that support healthcare initiatives.
What you'll get for this role:
- Salary £55,000 - £65,000 (depending on location, skills, experience, and qualifications)
- Bonus opportunity 10% of annual salary - Actual amount depends on your performance and Aviva's
- Generous pension scheme - Aviva will contribute up to 14%, depending on what you put in
- 29 days holiday plus
