We have an exciting new role opportunity in Mid-Market underwriting as an Underwriting manager for our newly created South East Region. The role is accountable for delivery of branch underwriting results and ensuring strong underwriting quality and capability development. You will be responsible for driving profitable growth and setting strategic direction of the branch through delivery of the Profit & Loss plan by providing expertise, technical advice and analysis whilst managing underwriting accounts and contributing to our National Underwriting Strategy.

This role is accountable for the underwriting and financial performance of their branch in line with Aviva's strategy. You will analyse Branch Underwriting Performance and implement strategies in line with RUM/CUO outputs, to improve branch financial performance. This role involves data analysis, strategy implementation and financial planning, while being overall accountable for Financial Performance of the branch. You will be consulted on Underwriting Activity and Technical Upskilling plans – in so far as they impact Financial Performance.

This role is responsible for maximising risk appetite and underwriting strategy, effectively managing the Branch portfolio to support growth, profit and customer numbers, leading on customer protection solutions including utilisation of specialist partner network whilst maintaining trust and Broker sentiment.

Skills and experience we’re looking for:

  • Underwriting leadership along with experience of underwriting roles and portfolio management
  • Experience of coaching and mentoring staff along with managing complex non-standard underwriting arrangements
  • The ability to analyse data trends to identify growth opportunities and inform future underwriting strategy
  • Excellent understanding of the insurance industry with a broad knowledge of external regulators along with knowledge of insurance regulation, agency and compliance
  • Knowledge of the local market and experience in building strong relationships with brokers and customers on large complex risks with the ability to develop strategic contacts & relationships in a complex environment

  • Salary: Up to £100k (based on skills, experience, and qualifications)
  • Bonus opportunity - actual amount depends on your performance and Aviva’s
  • Generous pension scheme e.g. if you put in 8%, Aviva adds 14%
