We have a fantastic opportunity for a Head of External Digital Communications to join our tenacious senior leadership team. This is a great job for someone with social and digital media background and/or a background in external corporate communications more widely, who thrives on leading, energising and motivating a team!

A bit about the job:

This role is key to our business as you will be a member of the Corporate Communications Leadership Team and will help contribute to the overall execution of our corporate communications plan in service of our overall communications strategy. You will lead a team of social and website specialists (approx. 8 people) ensuring that they are clear on their objectives as a team and as individuals and are appropriately motivated and supported to effectively deliver against them. You will have overall control of Aviva’s corporate social media channels and corporate website. You will be responsible for the content that appears on those channels and must make appropriate decisions regarding the proactive calendar of editorial activity, supporting the pillars of Aviva’s strategy, tactical execution of opportunities and effective handling of reputational risks which play out in social channels.

The role holder will develop and implement the digital communication plan, including designing and executing any digital campaigns, ensuring alignment to Aviva’s strategy. You will need to collaborate with wider colleagues in the team (for example the media relations teams) to ensure that our digital and social content aligns with our wider external corporate communications objectives as well as with subject matter experts from around the business to keep Aviva.com up to date and ensure it aligns with the brand’s voice and messaging. You will engage with our colleagues who look after our consumer social and digital channels to ensure appropriate alignment and coordination. The decisions you take are not always straightforward as you will need to consider the external environment as well as requests from internal stakeholders.

Skills and experience we’re looking for:

  • Excellent leadership skills
  • Effective stakeholder management experience
  • Social media agency management experience is desirable
  • Experience of working on social media and/or websites in a corporate environment is desirable
  • Journalism/Communications qualification would be an advantage but is not essential

  • National salary circa £95,000, London salary circa £115,000 (depending on location, skills, experience, and qualifications)
  • Bonus opportunity - 25% of annual salary. Actual amount depends on your performance and Aviva’s
