We have an exciting opportunity for an Actuarial Specialist to join our Automation Modelling team. This is a great job for someone to join a rapidly developing and highly regarded team, that has a strong proven track record of delivering excellent business solutions!

Aviva has introduced “smart-working” and the person in this role would ideally be based in Norwich, but could potentially be based anywhere in the UK, as long as they are comfortable regularly travelling to our Norwich office twice a month.

A bit about the job:

As the UK General Insurance (GI) Actuarial team takes on new and different business, new functionality will be needed in their tools. This role will involve liaising with the Reserving and Capital teams in UK, Ireland and Canada, as well as developers in the Innovation teams, to design and support the build of these tools. It is highly likely that the scope of the team will expand over the next 12 months to include other technical areas of GI Finance.

Tasks will include:

  • Understanding existing processes and spreadsheets, and desired improvements
  • Designing apps, tools and processes, to ensure the needs of the users are met – this will include creating new and innovative solutions to existing and emerging requirements
  • Working with coders to ensure anything build meets the needs of the actuarial teams
  • Training business users in any new tools
  • Answering queries from business users on methodology and functionality
  • Provides oversight and risk assurance of the in regards to capital requirements for the Aviva model.
  • Support the delivery of good customer outcomes through all activities and deliverables, enabling us to act in good faith towards customers, avoid causing foreseeable harm and enable and support our customers to pursue their financial objectives.

Skills and experience we’re looking for:

  • A part qualified or fully qualified actuary
  • Experience of actuarial techniques, a deep knowledge of the actuarial reserving process would be an advantage but by no means essential
  • Drive to find or design solutions to tricky problems
  • Inquisitive nature
  • The ability to work collaboratively with business users and coders

  • National salary £60,000 – £70,000, London salary £70,000 – £80,000 (depending on location, skills, experience, and qualifications)
