Equity Trader – Public Markets Team

We are recruiting for Equity Trader to join our public markets team. This is a great opportunity for someone who is passionate about equity markets and excels at delivering high-quality trade execution. The role focuses on implementing investment decisions efficiently, achieving best execution, managing risk and transaction costs, and supporting portfolio performance through market insight and execution expertise. From fixed income and equities to multi-asset solutions, our public markets teams build high-conviction portfolios based on deep research, active management, and robust portfolio construction. We take a long‑term, global view – cutting through market noise to drive superior client returns while integrating sustainability at every step.

A bit about the role

This role is responsible for delivering high-quality execution of global equity trades on behalf of clients, ensuring the efficient implementation of investment decisions while achieving best execution outcomes. Working across single stocks, index baskets and electronic trading platforms, the individual contributes to portfolio performance by preserving alpha, minimising transaction costs and sourcing market liquidity. They provide market insight to portfolio managers, build and maintain strong relationships with brokers and execution partners, and support continuous improvements in trading processes and technology. The role requires sound judgement in execution strategy, risk management and counterparty selection, while maintaining the highest standards of compliance, operational excellence and attention to detail.

Skills and experience we’re looking for

  • Demonstrated experience in equity trading, with a strong understanding of market structure, trading systems and operating within a regulated environment.
  • Strong analytical and communication skills, with the ability to interpret market data, assess trading performance and provide insights to investment teams.
  • Experience in programme trading, particularly index basket trading around MSCI and FTSE rebalances, is highly desirable.
  • Knowledge of electronic trading strategies, algorithmic execution and the use of algo wheel frameworks to optimise execution outcomes.
  • Understanding of Transaction Cost Analysis (TCA) and how trading performance reviews can be used to drive continuous improvement and enhance execution quality.

In this role you’ll be ‘Certified’ under the Financial Conduct Authority / Prudential Regulation Authority’s Senior Managers and Certification Regime (SMCR). This means that we’ll need to complete some regulatory background checks on you before you take up your role and we’ll need to ask you some questions on an annual basis to make sure you remain ‘fit and proper’ and competent to carry out your role. We’ll provide training on what holding a SMCR role means when you join us and annually thereafter.
