Overview
The successful candidate will work alongside senior colleagues receiving support and encouragement in this new role, leading to responsibility for their own client portfolios. The position offers an excellent opportunity for progression within a highly successful national rating team. The successful applicant will undertake research, inspections, valuations, and negotiations on a wide variety of commercial property for business rate purposes. This will include complex rates mitigation issues with both Billing Authorities and the Valuation Office Agency. They will attend client meetings, liaising with clients and will develop and seek new business opportunities.
Responsibilities
- Client Advice β Business rates advice and mitigation
- Business Development β build on our existing client base
- Negotiating with both Billing Authorities and Valuation Officers
- Working closely with rating team and other Avison Young colleagues within the business
Qualifications
- Experience in the valuation of non-domestic properties for business rate purposes; experience in private sector or government (Valuation Office Agency) preferred
- Competent in the valuation of commercial property for business rate purposes; understanding of relevant procedures, Rating Statute and Legislation
- Team player, commercially astute, with ability to develop into the role
- Professional, conscientious, and hard-working mentality
- Good communication skills; ability to build relationships with clients and colleagues
- Strong drive for results and ability to understand the commercial landscape
- Desire to learn and grow within a successful team
- Technical understanding of Rating Valuations (Contractors Test, Comparative method, Receipts & Expenditure)
- Understanding of Billing Authority procedures, Rating Statute and Legislation; understanding of \βCheck, Challenge and Appeal\β
- Experience with review of valuations, submission of Checks, Challenges and Appeals to Valuation Tribunal; ability to negotiate settlements to deliver fees
- Proficiency in Microsoft Office
- MRICS qualification or approaching qualification
