Are you ready to build something that matters? At AVIRE, we develop life-saving technologies for people in high-rise buildings. Whether it’s helping someone with reduced mobility stay safe in a fire, or ensuring emergency calls get through when every second counts, we design systems that protect lives. We’re looking for a curious, committed apprentice to join our supportive, close-knit engineering team and grow into an expert electronics engineer.

This is a four-year degree apprenticeship, combining hands-on experience with expert tuition delivered by our partners at Newbury College, fully funded by AVIRE. You’ll gain a university-level qualification without the debt, while earning a competitive salary that grows as you do. You’ll be supported every step of the way, joining a collaborative international team that values your ideas, invests in your growth, and trusts you to contribute from day one.

What you’ll do

  • Design and develop electronic systems that keep people safe
  • Break complex problems into manageable pieces, then find elegant ways to solve them
  • Learn programming languages like C, C++, Python, Rust and SPARK
  • Use specialist software (ECAD) to create and test circuit designs
  • Understand real-world engineering factors like thermal design and electromagnetic compatibility
  • Develop test plans, prototypes and products for full-scale manufacture
  • Plan projects, assess risk and manage timelines
  • Learn about international safety regulations and design standards
  • Consider the business side too - including product costing and manufacturing scale-up
  • Most of all, develop into a well-rounded engineer who designs with care, thinks creatively, and acts with purpose

What we’re looking for

You’re the kind of person who:

  • Is endlessly curious about how things work and loves finding solutions
  • Enjoys working with others, sharing ideas, and learning through collaboration
  • Feels driven by the idea of building technology that genuinely helps people
  • Takes pride in doing things well and seeing them through

We believe great engineers come from all backgrounds and identities. If you’re someone who thrives when you’re learning, enjoys working with purpose, and likes the idea of seeing the direct impact of your work on the world, we’d love to hear from you.

Entry requirements

To apply, you’ll need one of the following:

  • A-Levels: ABB (including Mathematics and another STEM subject)
  • BTEC National Diploma: DDM
  • IB: 30 points with Higher Level Mathematics and Science at Grade 5 or above

And:

  • A full UK driving licence
  • The right to live and work in the UK
  • The ability to be on site in Maidenhead or Newbury up to 5 days per week
