Who we are
We're IAG Loyalty - one organisation with two ambitious, growing divisions across Loyalty and Holidays. Each has its own goals, strategy and team, but together we're united by a shared vision to create a more rewarding world of travel and experiences. Our Loyalty division is home to Avios, the global loyalty currency, enabling millions of members to collect and spend rewards across travel, retail and financial services. Our Holidays division, including British Airways Holidays and Iberia Vacaciones, connects customers to thousands of destinations worldwide through seamless, end-to-end travel experiences. We're on an exciting journey of growth and transformation – we're going places.
The opportunity
We're looking for a Senior Software Engineer to help shape one of the most critical platforms within our Loyalty division. You'll join the team responsible for our Pricing Service – the engine behind reward pricing across multiple airlines, partners, products and propositions. It plays a critical role in enabling millions of customers to redeem their Avios seamlessly. You'll design, build and evolve scalable, resilient cloud-native services using Java, Spring Boot and AWS, while having the opportunity to influence technical direction and how the team builds and operates software. This is a hands‑on senior engineering role where you'll own solutions through to production, contribute to architectural decisions, mentor other engineers and help us continuously raise the bar for engineering excellence.
What you'll be doing
You'll own the delivery of backend features from design through to production, developing resilient and scalable services that support millions of redemption requests across our global loyalty ecosystem. Working within a collaborative product engineering team, you'll:
- Build modern microservices and APIs using Java, Spring Boot and AWS
- Manage cloud infrastructure through Terraform and Infrastructure as Code
- Contribute to architecture and technical decision‑making as our platform evolves
- Champion engineering excellence through automated testing, CI/CD, code reviews and pair programming
- Use observability and monitoring to understand service health, troubleshoot complex distributed systems and improve reliability
- Mentor and support other engineers, sharing knowledge and helping raise technical capability across the team
You’ll work closely with Product Managers, engineers and partner teams across British Airways, Iberia, Aer Lingus and the wider IAG group, translating business priorities into high‑quality technical solutions that deliver great outcomes for customers and the business. As part of a shared on‑call rota, you’ll also help support this critical customer‑facing service, responding to incidents and continuously improving its reliability and resilience.
What we need from you
Strong backend engineering experience using Java and Spring Boot, including building scalable APIs and microservices.
Hands‑on experience building and operating cloud‑native solutions in AWS.
Experience with Terraform, Infrastructure as Code and modern CI/CD practices.
Strong understanding of automated testing, code quality, security and software engineering best practices.
Experience troubleshooting distributed systems and using observability to improve performance and reliability.
Strong communication and collaboration skills, with experience contributing to technical decisions.
Experience mentoring and supporting other engineers through code reviews, pair programming and knowledge sharing.
Comfortable working within Agile product engineering teams and taking ownership from design through to production.
Experience with AI‑assisted development tools would be desirable.
Experience with business rules engines, loyalty platforms or the travel industry would be an advantage.
We might not be right for you if
You only want to focus on your own work; we're a collaborative, high‑performing team who help each other succeed.
You value perfection over learning, iteration and progress; we move quickly and continuously improve as we go.
You're looking to design solutions but not own their implementation; this is an end‑to‑end engineering role where you'll take solutions through to production.
If you think you have what it takes but don't meet every requirement, we'd still love to hear from you.
The Blend
This role is part of our Loyalty Division and is based from our London office. We call our hybrid working approach The Blend – giving you the flexibility to choose where you do your best work whilst staying connected with your team. Typically, you'll spend at least two days each week in the office, with flexibility to work from home for the remainder.
Diversity and Inclusion
Our vision is to create a more rewarding world of travel and experiences. Delivering that requires diverse thinking and inclusive leadership. We are committed to building a workplace where people feel they belong and are valued for their perspective. Inclusion drives better decisions, stronger performance and more innovative outcomes. We actively encourage applications from people with different experiences and backgrounds, and are committed to ensuring our recruitment process is fair, inclusive and accessible.
