Responsibilities

Key Responsibilities

Statutory Accounting & Financial Reporting

  • Support the preparation and review of statutory financial statements for UK entities.
  • Assist with period-end and year-end close activities.
  • Ensure accounting records comply with internal policies and applicable accounting standards.
  • Work closely with the wider statutory accounting team to maintain a high standard of financial reporting.

Corporate Tax

  • Prepare and review corporate tax calculations and returns in collaboration with external advisors.
  • Manage quarterly and annual tax provisions.
  • Calculate and post current and deferred tax provisions.
  • Support tax forecasting and effective tax rate analysis.
  • Manage group relief calculations and related tax adjustments.
  • Assist with Corporate Interest Restriction (CIR) compliance.
  • Coordinate and support Research & Development Expenditure Credit (RDEC) claims.
  • Support PAYE Settlement Agreements (PSA) and other UK tax reporting obligations.
  • Monitor changes in UK tax legislation and assess impacts on the business.

VAT & indirect tax

  • Prepare and review VAT returns and supporting documentation.
  • Ensure compliance with UK VAT regulations and reporting requirements.
  • Support VAT audits and respond to queries from advisors and tax authorities.
  • Preparation and follow up for indirect tax.

Audit & Compliance

  • Act as a key contact for external auditors during interim and year-end audits.
  • Prepare audit support schedules and respond to audit queries.
  • Review tax computations prepared by external advisors.
  • Ensure all statutory and tax filing deadlines are met.
  • Support internal control and compliance initiatives.

Team Support & Development

  • Provide technical guidance and day-to-day support to two members of the statutory accounting team.
  • Contribute to process improvements, standardisation, and automation initiatives.

Qualifications

Skills & Experience

  • Professional accounting qualification (ACA, ACCA, CIMA, CTA or equivalent) or qualified by experience.
  • Strong background in both accounting and UK taxation.
  • Experience with corporate tax compliance and tax provisioning.
  • Good understanding of deferred tax accounting.
  • Experience preparing or reviewing VAT returns.
  • Experience working with external auditors and tax advisors.
  • Strong analytical and problem-solving skills.
  • Ability to manage priorities and work independently.
  • Experience supervising or mentoring junior team members.
