Our Estimator would play a key role in supporting the successful delivery of overhead and underground power line projects by preparing accurate and competitive cost estimates. Quotes are drafted based on a schedule of rates and having evaluated work plans/documentation etc. The Estimator ensures that quotes are comprehensive, accurate, and aligned with Avidety’s commitment to safety, quality, and operational excellence in the power infrastructure sector.
Duties and Responsibilities
- Review drawings, specifications, scope documents, and other bid materials related to overhead and underground power line projects.
- Prepare detailed cost estimates for new construction, maintenance, and upgrade projects including materials, labour, equipment, and subcontracted services from a schedule of rates.
- Engage with internal engineering and operations teams to ensure estimates align with project methodologies and delivery capabilities.
- Evaluate supplier and subcontractor quotes to ensure accuracy and cost-effectiveness.
- Occasionally prepare bid proposals, budget estimates, and value-engineering options as required.
- Contribute to project planning and resource forecasting based on estimated scopes.
- Ensure all estimating activities adhere to company standards, health and safety requirements, and regulatory guidelines.
- Maintain and continuously improve a database of unit costs and historical project data to improve future estimating accuracy.
Qualifications and Skills
- HNC/HND or bachelor’s degree in electrical engineering, Construction Management, Quantity Surveying, or related field (preferred but not essential).
- Minimum 2 years of experience in estimating roles, ideally within the power distribution, utilities, or electrical infrastructure sectors.
- Familiarity with power line construction, both overhead and underground, including relevant equipment, materials, and techniques (preferred but not essential).
Key Skills
- Strong understanding of industry-specific cost structures and construction methodologies.
- Excellent numerical, analytical, and problem-solving skills.
- Proficient in Excel-based systems, Microsoft Office Suite and Xero.
- Ability to read and interpret technical drawings, specifications, and scopes of work.
- Effective verbal and written communication skills for coordination with internal teams, suppliers, and clients.
- Highly organised, detail-oriented, and capable of managing multiple workstreams simultaneously.
- Understanding of CDM regulations, health and safety standards, and NRSWA guidelines (desirable but not essential).
