Purpose The Test House Engineer will support in all aspects of testing, this includes, but is not limited to Fire testing, Mechanical Performance testing, Static Structural testing and Seat Cushion Fire testing. This role will be mainly focused on Mechanical Performance testing and Static Structural testing initially as these two areas have been identified internally as requiring additional resource. This role is both internal and external customer facing. Key Responsibilities Fire Testing * Perform tests to defined procedures and in accordance with applicable standards (i.e., CS 25.853, AITM, FAR 25.853 etc) using fire test equipment which conforms to strict regulations * Perform regular preventative maintenance and machine equipment calibrations to ensure validity of results and prevent breakdowns * Manage daily workloads to ensure that customer work is processed in an efficient and timely manner. * Communicate to the TL any issues and problems that may affect the validity of results * Data analysis and comparison testing * To ensure that all measuring and monitoring equipment is within its calibration window before use NB: (Fire Testing and Seat Cushion testing only) all testing activity and processes must be conducted in line with our ISO/IEC 17025:2017 approval. Mechanical Performance * Perform tests to defined procedures and in accordance with applicable standards (i.e., ASTM, ISO etc) using universal test machines such as Instron and Lloyd EZ50 * Interpretation of test results and failure modes in line with standards * To co-ordinate with the TL on priorities and workload to ensure on time delivery of results to the Operations team * Communicate regular updates to the TL on batch testing and qualification test programs * To ensure that all measuring and monitoring equipment is within its calibration window before use Static Structural Testing * Mark up of test units (XYZ coordinates) including drilling and liaising with the Conformity Inspection team at every stage gate * Creation of whiffle tree branches and spreader plates in line with the relevant test plan * Prepare unit and test rig in readiness for testing * Setting up of recording devices for test purposes and downloading onto a computer server * Breakdown (post-test) and reassemble for next directional test in line with the relevant test plan * To ensure that all measuring and monitoring equipment is within its calibration window before use * Co-ordinate with the TL to ensure where possible that testing stays on schedule to meet business deadlines Seat Cushion Fire Testing * Perform tests to defined procedures and in accordance with applicable standards (i.e., CS 25.853, AITM, FAR 25.853 etc) using fire test equipment which conforms to strict regulations * Perform regular preventative maintenance and machine equipment calibrations to ensure validity of results and prevent breakdowns * Manage daily workloads to ensure that customer work is processed in an efficient and timely manner. * Communicate to the TL any issues and problems that may affect the validity of results * Data analysis and comparison testing * To ensure that all measuring and monitoring equipment is within its calibration window before use NB: H&S must be adhered to at all times and any Safe Systems of Work and risk assessments observed and followed Key Performance Measures To ensure that testing is completed as per schedule, where possible Time management skills and effectiveness when carrying out tasks Ensuring calibration equipment is processed in a timely manner (outgoing and incoming) Knowledge, Education, Skills and Experience Knowledge: – Essential Criteria: Excellent communication skills Proficient using computers (i.e., using MS Excel, Word, PowerPoint etc) Excellent customer service skills A flexible approach to working hours (where applicable and with reasonable requests) The ability to problem solve under tight time constraints (i.e., risk of being late to plan) To be able to read and understand technical drawings – Desirable Criteria: Knowledge of Evolution or MRP systems Knowledge of aviation fire specifications (i.e., CS 25.853, FAA – Aircraft Materials Fire Test Handbook Knowledge of ISO/IEC 17025:2017 – General requirements for the competence of testing and calibration laboratories – Skills and competencies required Some knowledge of cabin interiors desirable, but not essential Computer skills Understanding of Quality Management Systems Previous experience maintaining calibrated items / equipment Key Relationships & Interaction – Internal Relationships & Interactions: Test House Manager, Test House Team Leader, Test House staff To communicate clearly and effectively any priorities, delays, issues, complaints etc with the Test House TL/Team in support. – External Relationships & Interactions: Customer facing via telephone, email, MS Teams and in person To always ensure professionalism when communicating with customers Other Material Requirements, such as location, working arrangements, travel requirement, etc: A positive attitude and the willingness to take on a new challenge will greatly assist in becoming successful in this role. This role is technical based and would ideally suit someone with an analytical mind.
