The King’s Helicopter Flight (TKHF) consists of a small team of pilots and ground support, providing the highest standard of helicopter service to Members of the Royal Family on official engagements. We are expanding and seeking an additional, skilled and professional Helicopter Pilot in Command to join our dedicated team of pilots and ground support staff.

Joining the team, you will undertake the role of Pilot-in-Command and also Co-Pilot as a member of a multi-pilot crew. You will be responsible for the planning and safe execution of flights and duties in accordance with TKHF Operations Manual. In addition to your flying duties, you will undertake management tasks and other administrative duties in support of the Director of Flight Operations.

Working Hours

You’ll work on average, five days per week Monday to Sunday in accordance with our Flight Time Limitation Scheme. Flexibility is essential as you will be required to work weekends, overnights, public holidays and undertake travel across the UK and abroad as necessary. You will be required to live within a reasonable distance of RAF Odiham – within 1:30 hours.

Essential Criteria

  • With extensive flying experience in multi‑engine helicopters, you will hold a valid UK ATPL (H). Applicants with a UK CPL (H) with current Instrument Rating will also be considered.
  • A UK Class 1 medical (no OML).
  • A valid UK Passport and possess the legal right to work in the UK.
  • An AW139 type rating and Corporate/VVIP experience are highly desirable.

As a natural collaborator, you have excellent communication and strong interpersonal skills and are confident liaising with a wide range of people. You are a sound team player who understands the importance of trust, mutual support and integrity. You maintain a very high personal standard of discipline, conduct and appearance as required by the Royal Household. With exceptional levels of attention to detail and time management, you are capable of planning accurate flight plans and are driven to operate consistently to the highest standard. Your strong organisational, problem solving and multi‑tasking skills mean that you can always think ahead and act proactively. You display high levels of initiative and leadership. You support and promote an open and honest safety culture, practise sound CRM and ensure risks are reduced to as low as reasonably practicable.
