Gama Aviation is currently recruiting an Engine Technician to join our skilled engineering team in Kennington. This position is a dedicated piston aero engine overhaul technician who will be responsible for the overhaul and repair of piston aero engine cylinders.
Responsibilities:
- Overhaul and repair of piston aero engine cylinders, including refurbishment of cylinders.
- Cleaning, blasting and polishing of cylinder components.
- Honing and grinding of cylinder barrels.
- Replacing and reaming valve guides, grinding seat surfaces, and lapping valves.
- Performing valve leak tests.
- General machining of cylinder head, including refacing exhaust ports.
- Conducting dimensional inspections using micrometers and other tools.
- Gapping piston rings.
- Assembling valve‑gear components in the cylinder head.
- Maintaining the highest standards of quality and safety, with commercial awareness.
- Working directly from approved maintenance data, including electronic overhaul manuals and service bulletins.
- Accurately completing stage worksheets, referencing correct data in line with company procedures.
- Prioritising requisitioning of spares to meet turnaround deadlines.
Skills, Qualifications and Experience Required:
- Strong general mechanical engineering background in Aviation or Automotive disciplines.
- Good working knowledge of internal combustion engines and associated components.
- Previous experience in piston engine restoration or refurbishment (e.g., classic car engine restoration or aviation‑specific areas).
- Background in basic manual machining and fabrication processes.
- Ideally a working knowledge of CAA regulations that apply to engine and component overhaul/repair.
